The Ottawa Senators have signed free agent defenseman Joe Corvo to a one-year deal. Corvo, 36, returns to the Senators after playing for the Washington Capitals, Carolina Hurricanes and Boston Bruins. He was previously with Ottawa in 2006-07 and 2007-08 and was on the Senators team that went to the Stanley Cup final. The Senators acquired right-winger Bobby Ryan from the Anaheim Ducks last week as part of an effort to replace captain Daniel Alfredsson. On the blue-line, Ottawa must make up for the loss of veteran Sergei Gonchar, who was traded to the Dallas Stars. Corvo had six goals and 11 assists in 40 games for the Hurricanes last season. In 689 career NHL games, Corvo has 89 goals and 211 assists. The deal is reportedly worth $900,000.

The team has come to terms with Joe Corvo, an unrestricted free agent who played for Ottawa from 2006-2008. LOUIS The Blues continued their busy offseason on Monday afternoon when General Manager Doug Armstrong announced the acquisition of forward Pat Cannone from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for future considerations. Joe Corvo Returns To Canada’s Capital by   Steven Ellis

The Ottawa Senators have signed UFA D-man Joe Corvo to a one year contract. Corvo, who scored six goals and 11 assists in 40 games with the Carolina Hurricanes last season, returns to Ottawa where the reception may not be so big for the former Senator.   Not considered to be very strong in his own zone, he’s expected to start [...]

Joe Corvo Makes Ottawa Comeback Tour

As per Doni B the Sens have brought back Joe Corvo for his second stint in the nation's capital on a one-year, $900,000 deal. Corvo's 2 years here weren't exactly glamorous as his dumb turnovers and poor defensive play never went unnoticed among fans, and didn't get along well with the media, earning himself the nickname "Uh-Oh" Corvo. He didn't really...

Cowen Suddenly An RFA - What Is He Worth?

#Sens Jared Cowen is an RFA. His contract did not slide in 2010-11 by mutual agreement of NHL & NHLPA. No explanation as to why at present. — CapGeek (@capgeek) July 6, 2013 The other bit of unexpected news over the weekend (though much less consequential) was the matter of Jared Cowen needing a new contract. Cowen was slated to be entering the final year of his...

Morning Line

The Senators didn’t lack appreciation for Alfredsson. Go to ottawasenators.com and the first thing you see is a “Thank you” page, very classy considering the circumstances. But, it shows how careful you have to be. For just one moment, they slipped. It will never be the same. After the Bobby Ryan trade, you can debate if the Senators or the Red Wings are the truer contender...

Ottawa Senators reload after Daniel Alfredsson's exit

The Ottawa Senators recovered nicely from Daniel Alfredsson’s decision to abandon his franchise and sign with the Detroit Red Wings for the twilight of his career. The team acquired Bobby Ryan from the Anaheim Ducks, adding an 30- to 40-goal threat to play with Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek.“Wherever they are going to put me, I'm going to be really happy to play,” Ryan...

So Long, Bobby Ryan.

Anaheim Ducks' winger Bobby Ryan was dealt to the Ottawa Senators on Friday for Jakob Silfverberg, Stefan Noesen, and a 2014 1st-round pick. Bobby was my second favorite Duck and second favorite hockey player behind Ryan Getzlaf, and I'm sad to see him go.Though I wish Bobby was still skating in Anaheim, at least the Ducks got a really nice package back from the Sens. Best of luck, Bobby.

Because we needed to know right booking now…The Senators may or may not retire #11

Ugh. This story just popped up on the wires, via RedWingsFeed, and I'm starting to think that Red Wings fans are going to get incredibly tired of the Ottawa media's seeming desire to rub as much salt in the, "Daniel Alfredsson defected to the Red Wings" wound as humanly possible...In maybe five days, never mind by August or September. The Ottawa Sun's Don Brennan...

Nichols: Weighing In On The Weekend

On Friday, July 5th, the Ottawa Senators lost the heart and soul of their team. One day after Bryan Murray expressed confidence in being able to retain Ottawa’s captain, Daniel Alfredsson spurned the Senators to ink a one-year, $5.5 million contract ($3.5 million guaranteed and $2.0 million in bonuses) with their new division rivals, the Detroit Red Wings. It has been a...
