The San Jose Sharks absolutely dominated the Los Angeles Kings through the first period Tuesday night at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, out shooting the reigning Champs 15-3.
“I thought they were great, established a relentless forecheck, and used their size to their advantage, ” said Sharks’ head coach Todd McLellan. “Obviously that got us the first goal. The momentum they created ran throughout the rest of the lines, and everybody jumped on board.”
Kings goalie Jonathan Quick was brilliant in the first period, preventing San Jose from running away with the game and saving 14 of the 15 shots that found their way towards his net.
Brett Burns gave San Jose a 1-0 lead with the only shot that found its way past Quick in the first period.
While it was Burns who got the goal, it was the Captain, Joe Thornton, who set the tone early on, setting up Burns’ goal after stealing the puck from the Kings’ Slava Voynov on the forecheck.
