Hockey Fan Land:
It seems the Toronto Maple Leafs have an active interest in forward James van Riemsdyk of the Philadelphia Flyers. And the Leafs general manager may be willing to move a former "untouchable" -- defenseman Luke Schenn -- to get him.
Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun:
"... Just 22, van Riemsdyk has plenty of upside, and has played in 32 Stanley Cup playoff games. (Brian) Burke wants to get bigger at forward -- van Riemsdyk is 6-feet-3 and 200 pounds -- and add players who have post-season experience ..."
Van Riemsdyk carries an annual salary cap hit of $4.25 million until 2018. Schenn is locked in until 2016 at an average annual salary of $3.6 million.
ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun reports there's merit to this speculation, but Schenn isn't the only defenseman the Flyers fancy:

On Wednesday, Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke went on FAN 590 in Toronto and said that the team was working on a trade; he also said that he wouldn't be against "trading a 22-year-old of one position for a 22-year-old of another position."
Defenseman Luke Schenn is 22. So is Philadelphia Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk, whose team is in need of another blue liner...
The Philadelphia Flyers have suffered through a rash of concussions this season. On Saturday, the team announced that winger James Van Riemsdyk will be out of the lineup indefinitely with, you guessed it, a concussion.
Matt Read, Claude Giroux, Brayden Schenn and of course, Flyers Captain, Chris Pronger have all missed time this year because of concussions. Pronger will miss at least...
Reports are saying that the Leafs and Flyers are discussing a deal that would send Toronto defenseman Luke Schenn to Philadelphia in exchange for forward James van Riemsdyk. The news has been reported on both TSN and the Philadelphia Daily News. I think the deal would benefit both teams.Having lost Chris Pronger for the rest of the season with his future unknown, this leaves a big...
Here is GM Paul Holmgren's statement:
"James was hit in the head in each of our last two games. He reported yesterday, not feeling like himself. He will be out indefinitely with a concussion."
TSN and the Philadelphia Daily news report possible trade discussions between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Philadelphia Flyers.
The proposed deal would send Leaf's defenseman Luke Schenn, former first round pick and brother of Flyer's rookie Brayden Schenn, to the Flyers in exchange for third year forward James Van Riemsdyk.
The deal makes sense for the Flyers, who are...

All warfare is based on deception.
This advice applies to the negotiations between NHL general managers as well. GMs rarely show their hands and they sometimes use media sources to spread false rumors as a screen to allow them to make their desired moves.
In recent history, there were strong trade winds linking the Philadelphia Flyers to...
from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, • I can confirm reports that Philadelphia and Toronto have chatted over the past week. The Leafs have long coveted winger James van Riemsdyk. Sources on both teams, however, told ESPN.com Thursday that nothing was close to imminent on any deal. The Flyers’ top priority is to get help on defense, and it just so happens that’s where Toronto has extra...
