The St. Louis Blues have started the season on fire with a 6-2-0 record through the team's first eight games, which actually accounts for a sixth of the season. There were many expectations for the team coming into the season and thus far, the Blues are fulfilling those expectations as a team. Individually, there are many Blues' players that are off to very nice starts to the season, which has helped translate into team success. Many felt that if the Blues were going to take the next step forward this season, many players would need to step up their games, live up to their potential, and grow into more mature hockey players. Fortunately, many players have been able to live up to the hype thus far, but here are three players who are playing extremely well for the Blues early in the season. Vladimir Tarasenko Tarasenko is the definition of a player getting and a lot of hype and then living up to it. In fact, Tarasenko is actually exceeding expectations thus far in his rook...

David Backes ejected for alleged hit to head, but officials blew the call (Video)

St. Louis Blues captain David Backes was ejected from Friday night's game at Joe Louis Arena after receiving a match penalty for allegedly delivering an illegal hit to the head of Detroit Red Wings defenseman Kent Huskins. However, it would appear that the Blues got the short end of a horrendous call by NHL referees Chris Lee and Ian Walsh, as replay clearly shows Backes hit...

The Backes call was terrible. Huskins was injured, and the Wings took the PP, but it was terrible

As noted in the quick take, and as just about any Red Wings fan will tell you, the penalty assessed to St. Louis Blues David Backes for what was most assuredly a hard and was probably an intent-to-injure hit on Red Wings defenseman Kent Huskins--who did leave the game, and does have an "upper-body injury," according to Helene St. James and Ansar Khan--may have been the...

Backes levels former teammate Huskins

St. Louis Blues center David Backes is known as a physical player across the league. A player that plays the game the right way with tenacity, grit and aggression. Backes, the Blues' captain and top-line centerman, played a physical game against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night in a 5-3 loss on the road. Unfortunately, the refs thought Backes may have been too physical...

Ugly - Officials blow late call on David Backes

The year is young, yet it already has been an ugly season for NHL officiating. Across the league fans are complaining about the inconsistent and extremely ticky-tacky calls officials are making. David Backes hit on Kent Huskins

This was the hit that St. Louis Blues forward David Backes put on Detroit Redwings defenseman Kent Huskins. Backes was given a five minute major and match penalty. In looking at the video it doesn't look like Backes even hit Huskins in the head. What do you think?

St. Louis Blues: Is David Backes the most important player on the Blues?

During Friday night's 5-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues center and captain David Backes was issued a five minute major and a game misconduct for a hit to the head of Red Wings' defenseman Kent Huskins. The hit by Backes was likely clean and the Blues gave up the game-winning goal on the ensuing penalty. While Backes made headlines because of a huge hit thatÂ...

Red Wings-Blues quick take: Captain Z serves up a platter of curly fries

That was bizarre...The Red Wings' 5-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues may go down in "Weird Game" history, but it was nonetheless incredibly satisfying to watch the Wings both overcome the Blues and themselves as this team in progress attempts to claw out an identity for itself. The Wings absolutely raced out to a two-goal first period lead thanks to a PP and then...

Predators-Blues Preview

Jaroslav Halak played a significant role in the St. Louis Blues' latest win over the Nashville Predators, but an injury will keep the goaltender out of the next matchup.
