Yesterday the St. Louis Blues and defenseman Jay Bouwmeester agreed to a new five-year contract extension worth $27 million. Bouwmeester will be with St. Louis through the 2018-2019 season as he had one year left on his current deal.
Bouwmeester, 29, was acquired by the Blues on April 1st in a trade with the Calgary Flames in exchange for Mark Cundari, Reto Berra, and this year’s conditional first and fourth round draft picks.
Bouwmeester made his postseason debut last season with the Blues in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals against the Kings and recorded his first career point with an assist in Game 4.
Bouwmeester marks the sixth Blue to-resign along with Patrik Berglund, Kevin Shattenkirk, Jordan Leopold, Chris Stewart, and Jake Allen.
Defenseman Alex Pietrangelo and newly acquired left-winger Magnus Paajarvi have not been signed as of yet.

With training camp some six weeks away the Blues have their team, which suggests their biggest move was the one they didn’t make, the one most expected. His publicized quarrel with coach Ken Hitchcock notwithstanding, goaltender Jaroslav Halak is still here, as is veteran Brian Elliott, as is promising Jake Allen.
And then there was one. The Blues have signed Magnus Paajarvi to a two-year contract, leaving Alex Pietrangelo as the lone player needing a new contract. Paajarvi's hit against the cap will be $1.2 million a season, as reported by Jeremy Rutherford.
The contract for Paajarvi puts the finishing touches on the David Perron trade. Paajarvi's $1.2 million cap hit will...
