In a great piece on Marc Staal's recovery from concussion syndrome, Christopher Botta at the New York Times speaks with Rangers Assistant General Manager Jim Schoenfeld about the Ranger defenseman's frustration with being on the third defensive pair...

"He is used to being one of the main ingredients. I know he has struggled with that. But we have spoken with him. The play of Michael and Ryan and Danny has allowed us to give Marc more time to get comfortable."

...i mentioned this on the blog yesterday, but I feel like Torts has handled Staal's integration back into the line-up perfectly. He hasn't disrupted the chemistry of the top two pairs, while slowly increasing Staal's workload on the third pair.

...i can sympothize with Staal as I'm sure he'd love to be playing 30 minutes a night again.

Brad Richards, who suffered a concussion last year, had this to say about Staal and concussions...

"I heard he was struggling. I didn't even know him that well, but we started to talk. There are certain humps you have to get over before you start feeling better and can think about skating again. With concussions, there is so much anxiety that few people understand. All the talk bothers you more than you'd think. It's not an exact science, which is why you're going to see players — whether they're teammates or opponents — speaking more openly with each other about concussions than ever before."

...once again Richards helping the team and teammates out behind the scenes. Continue to be impressed with what's he's brought to the Rangers franchise on and off the ice. His signing was so worth it.
