Mike Modano is returning to the Dallas Stars for their 20th anniversary season, though he won't be on the ice. The Stars on Thursday announced the hiring of Modano as an executive adviser. The U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame inductee will work on initiatives related to the ownership group, team broadcasts and corporate partnership. The highest-scoring American-born player in NHL history, he had 1,359 points in 1,459 games over 21 seasons, and helped the Stars win the 1999 Stanley Cup title. The team also hired three-time Stanley Cup champion Mark Recchi in hockey operations and former Stars goaltender Marty Turco as an analyst on the team's broadcasts.

Answering the questions about the Boston Bruins

Tuukka Rask is the Boston Bruins biggest question in 2013 Rejoice ye’ puck fanatics and repent the evil that was the NHL lockout! On Saturday, a little over three months since the NHL season was supposed to start, the Boston Bruins will begin their campaign for the Stanley Cup on Saturday evening in Boston where they take on the New York Rangers. While Tuesday’s “loss” to...

Rask takes torch from Thomas as Bruins return

The Boston Bruins are hoping they can take advantage of the shortened season with a veteran team that's largely the same as last year. The big difference is the absence of goalie Tim Thomas, who has decided to sit out a season. The team has placed the two-time Vezina Trophy winner on the suspended list. That means Tuukka Rask is the No. 1 goalie for now. Rask had the job in...

2013 Preview: 10 Big Questions About the Stars

1) Can the team find their chemistry quickly enough with the shortened season? There’s a lot of roster turnover on the team and the lack of a real training camp really hurts, but I’m going to say yes. Jaromir Jagr and Ray Whitney have been around long enough that they should be able to pick up the system quickly. Jagr’s been sort of a mercenary for the past decade so he’s...

Bill Meltzer: Star Gazing: Eakin Is Coming Along Nicely, Glennie Isn't

The Dallas Stars decision last join to trade erstwhile second-line center Mike Ribeiro to the Washington Capitals for 21-year-old center prospect Cody Eakin and a second-round pick was a pretty clear indication that the Stars wanted to go in a different direction after narrowly missing the playoffs in each of the last two seasons. The subsequent acquisition of Derek Roy relieved...

Ty Anderson: 10 Questions facing the Boston Bruins in 2013

We could sit here, and I could very well give you your standard formulaic season preview of what's on the horizon for the Boston Bruins in 2013. That's not fun, though, and nor will it ever be fun. There's a thousand other blogs where you can find that information, so we won't even bother going down that road. Instead, we're going to talk about the issues facing...

Bill Meltzer: Star Gazing: Ice Breaker Event, Larsen Expectations

The Dallas Stars' Ice Breaker event is something that predates the NHL lockout. However, this year's version is being done on a much bigger scale than in past years. As with many NHL teams, the Stars will be opening their home arena doors for free in an event that is partially a routine practice session moved to a larger venue and partially a fan-oriented spectacle with a...

Young stars must carry the 2013 Bruins

For the upcoming shortened NHL season to end in another cup for the Bruins, this must be a breakthrough year for our young talent. Here I am primarily referring to Tyler Seguin and Tuukka Rask.  These are two guys who can be superstars in this league for years to come, and if they play to the level they are capable of consistently, they will carry the team to playoff success for...

Video: Shawn Thornton's Hockey Resurrection Party Interview

The massive amounts of hetero man-love we hold for Shawn Thornton is known far and wide across the land, and a big reason is that his interviews are always classic.  The interview he gave at the Hockey Ressurection Party last night was no exception. We hoped to have this up earlier, but Youtube was being a pain in the ass, but all good things to those who wait.

Bruins’ Bad Blood, Potential Roberto Luongo Return Highlight Reasons to Be Excited for 2013 Season

It’s tough to think that Bruins fans may need extra or added reasons to watch the Bruins now that hockey is back. Just seeing the game back on ice across the continent will be good enough for many. But if for some reason you need a little extra motivation or added incentive, here’s one reason (there are plenty more) to watch every single Bruins game this season, starting with...

Northeast Division Preview

Next up is the Northeast Division #1. Boston Bruins- Without Tim Thomas, this would be a bold choice, but with how weak the division is, this is an easy pick. Two years removed from a Stanley Cup and the Bruins are looking to climb that mountain once again. Young gun, Tyler Seguin is leading the charge for the [...]

Bruins Rangers Preview

Although it may be tough to believe, hockey season is actually here. The Bruins are back. The regular season opens up Friday, when the Rangers come to town to take on the B's at the TD Garden. When the puck drops at seven, the two teams will battle it out for the first time this season. Both teams are relying on the little bit of practice that they've had as a whole...
