The Blues and Stewart worked hard to avoid arbitration and signed a deal that benefits both the team and the player. A two-year deal will bring Stewart, 25, right up to unrestricted free agency. Many people criticized Armstrong for this deal, as it gives Stewart chance to leave as an unrestricted free agent, yet they fail to look at the business side of the deal. The plus side for the Blues is that they have two more years to evaluate Stewart’s play to determine if they want to keep him in the organization long-term. He signed a one-year “prove it” deal and he proved it by getting in the best shape of his career and led the club in goals and points.
