Another prospects camp, another knee injury to a top Rangers prospect. Last season, Dylan McIlrath dislocated his knee cap after running into Kyle Jean and missed half the AHL season, now Adam Tambellini, who was the Rangers first pick (3rd round) on Sunday, apparently tweeked his knee on Monday and had to sit out yesterday's scrimmage at the MSG Training Facility. ...all indications are that Tambellini is fine and the Rangers held him out for precautionary reasons. Still has to be very disappointing for Tambellini, who was likely trying to make a nice first impression on the organinzation. Jim Cerny at Blueshirts United listed some of the day's highlights... "Seeing goals and strong play from past draft picks like Yogan (4th round, 2010), Spelling (5th round, 2012), and St. Croix (4th round, 2011) was a plus, as was the physical play of McIlrath (1st round, 2010) and Graves (4th round, 2013). At one point McIlrath hit Hrivik so hard, he lifted the strong forward off his skates and delivered him hard into the back boards. And Graves opened the scrimmage with a punishing hit in the corner after only ten seconds or so of play. Offensively Anthony Duclair (3rd round, 2013) was among the standouts, seemingly always on the puck, though he was unable to showcase that great speed we have heard about. He was also very responsible on the back check. Nieves (2nd round, 2012) stood out as the best playmaker on the ice, creating a string of scoring chances with his excellent vision and precise passing. Buchnevich (3rd round, 2013) showed a quick release and has the look of a sniper, always putting himself in position to shoot and to try and score. He rang one of his shots off the post from just inside the right circle at one point." Cerny added that 2012 first round pick Brady Skjei, who gained 10 pounds of muscle this offseason, displayed strong positional play and shot-blocking during the day. ...always good when your top prospects are the ones standing out. Love hearing that McIlrath was being physical. Keep it up kid. You might find yourself on the Rangers roster before you know it. ...i think I'm officially the most excited about Nieves. This kid is the real deal. Would love to see him leave Michigan after this season to start his professional career with the Whale as soon as possible. Big, playing making center who can score? Yes, please. Here's scrimmage highlights... Remember to follow me on Twitter & Facebook or e-mail me at nyrfan94@yahoo.com.
