Team USA can not place higher than seventh in the World Juniors Hockey Tournament, after Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Team Canada.
Canada pulled out early with three goals in the first period, and USA got a couple in to come within to almost pull an upset in the third.
Both goalies, however, were on their game. And it turned out to be Scott Wedgewood’s (OHL, Plymouth Whalers; New Jersey Devils prospect) night to celebrate early on New Year’s Eve, as opposed to USA’s Jack Campbell (OHL, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds; Dallas Stars prospect), who proved to be stellar the final two periods.
Team USA will play Latvia on Jan. 3 and Switzerland on Jan. 4 to close out the tournament.
Canada, however, came within a scary goalie safety moment when USA’s Emerson Etem (WHL, Medicine Hat; Anaheim Ducks prospect) clipped the feet of Wedgewood while battling for a loose puck out of the crease.
