With the Rangers trying to kill a 5-on-3, down 2-1 to the Jets last night and a home and home with the Penguins looming, the season was literally hanging in the balance.
So what did Ryan Callahan do? What any great captain does. He put the team on his back by doing this...
Here's Derek Stepan on the Rangers captain (via Blueshirts United)...
“It's no surprise (Callahan) stepped up in a big way. That's why he wears the C on his chest. He just seems to get the job done when we need it most. He's clutch, and he has this ability to step up and score the big goal.”
...Callahan hasn't been very Callahan-like lately. A lack of scoring, his physical game has been no where to be found and his frustration level seemed to be boiling over. But with all the chips on the table last night and the Rangers needing a spark, Callahan stepped up like he has time and again for this Rangers franchise.
..i take crap for it everytime I say it, but if the Rangers win a Cup under his leadership, he gets a seat at the table next to Messier in Rangers lore as far as I'm concerned. Home grown, Cup winning captain? Doesn't get better than that.
