The New Jersey Devils’ schedule for the 2013 season hasn’t been released yet, but owning to an ice show at Prudential Center, it seems likely the Devils will open the truncated season on the road.
The ice surface being down is one less cause for concern in making a quick turnabout now that a new collective bargaining agreement has finally been reached. Coach Peter DeBoer and his staff were in New Jersey during the lockout, so they figured to be prepared up to their ears to get the season started.
Now, the clarion call has gone out to the players to get here. Ilya Kovalchuk, already in top form from his play in the KHL, and defenseman Anton Volchenkov are heading back from Russia. Other Devils who were overseas are already back.
A group of players that includes Patrik Elias and Marek Zidlicky have joined up with the local crew that had been renting the ice at the Prudential Center practice rink.
