Boston Sports Then & Now:
New Jersey Devils
Anton Khudobin skates away as the Sabres celebrate their third goal of the third period.
If you turned the television off after the second period, you missed a lot. Through two periods, it looked as if the Bruins would beat the seemingly disinterested Buffalo Sabres with ease in front of their restless fans for the second time in less than a week. Then came the third, however, and the screws just simply fell off the wagons for the B’s as they blew a 2-1 second-intermission lead and inexplicably fell to the Sabres, 4-2, while only registering three shots on goal in the final frame.
For the second straight game, the Bruins found themselves down by two late in the third, but there would be no magic in the final minutes tonight. Widely regarded as one of the best third-period teams in the league, the Bruins allowed three goals in the final 20 minutes against the Sabres for the second time this year. Seven of the eight third-period goals the team has allowed through 12 games in 2013 have...

New England’s love affair with Dougie Hamilton has been very well-publicized. Hamilton’s early season success has now another chapter, as No. 27 has netted his first career goal.
The official time of the goal was 17:56 into the first period, a time Hamilton will likely never forget. Teammate Milan Lucic made sure to grab the puck out of the net for Hamilton, and that puck...
When Drew Stafford scored 3:24 into the first period on Friday night, there was no one happier in the arena than he was to finally get one to go his way.
“Obviously, that’s something I’ve been working for,” said Stafford, who donned the team’s brown fur coat that is given to their MVP of the night. “Finally it’s nice to get rewarded; now hopefully it floodgates.”...
Things certainly looked bleak for the Buffalo Sabres after two periods. The Bruins led, Ryan Miller was under siege and if things didn’t turn around, head coach Lindy Ruff might have very soon found himself on the unemployment line. Everything changed in the third period, when the Sabres roared back to overtake the Bruins and keep Ruff on the bench for at least one game more....
Bruins fans are accustomed to seeing Shawn Thornton settling things on the ice with his fists, but many forget that he’s capable of pulling some nifty offensive maneuvers as well.
That was on display in a game between the B’s and Winnipeg Jets back on Jan. 10, 2012, when the Boston brawler used some fancy stickwork to beat Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec on a penalty shot. But don’t...
The Bruins played a great 40 minutes on Friday. The problem is that hockey is a 60-minute contest.
The Sabres played like a desperate team during the third period, catching the Bruins off guard and scoring three unanswered goals. That turned a one-goal lead into a two-goal loss, and after the game — the Bruins’ second trip to Buffalo in a week — Boston was left wondering where...
The Bruins have had some tremendous success in the late stages of games this season, and that could be playing out once again in Buffalo on Friday night.
After trailing for much of the first period, the Bruins sprang into action, with Dougie Hamilton scoring his first career NHL goal. That knotted things up at 1-1, but something tells us the drama isn’t done just yet in this one...
The Bruins are getting plenty of good chances against the Winnipeg Jets — now, it’s just up to the B’s to start capitalizing on them.
Once again, Boston seems the better team early on, but the scoreboard has yet to reflect that. After seeing a lead slip away against the Sabres that could have been insurmountable, the Bruins would do well to start taking advantage of the chances...
In a surprise move, Lindy Ruff is healthy scratching robust, burly D Mike Weber.
Cody McCormick and TJ Brennan will also sit this one out.
Why is Lindy compromising the grit and tenacity of his lineup by sitting a guy who has arguably been his...
Awful game. Absolutely awful game. After dominating the first two periods the Boston Bruins came out into the third period and took a huge John Scott size dump on the ice. Buffalo scores three unanswered goals and win 4-2. Ugh. This loss is worse than the one on Jan 31st. In that game both sides of the ice were an absolute ******** for Boston. Tonight's was just infuriating...
If the Boston Bruins want to break their two-game losing streak they'll have to do it with out MIlan Lucic. After practice today Claude Julien said Looch won't be available for tomorrow's game against the Winnipeg Jets due to personal reasons. He's returning to Boston right away,
No Milan Lucic vs. WPG. Has returned to Boston for personal reason.
Buffalo is a nice city. Just ask the Bruins. They have to pack up and go back to Buffalo for the second time in three games, all in the same week. The last time the two teams met the Bruins beat the Sabres 3-1 and overpowered the weak Sabres team. Both teams have only played one game since their last meeting. The Bruins lost in overtime to the New York Rangers in a thrilling game...
If there was an honor for being the luckiest team in the NHL, the Buffalo Sabres might be the front runners for that award.
Multiple times this season Buffalo has been bailed out of their awful decisions, and has found itself in contention for a victory even though it was playing awful hockey.
On Friday, it happened again.
Despite an overly poor outing in the second period, and other...
Sure, it’s frustrating.
Sure, it’s disappointing.
Sure, “The Kid” has not come out of the gate gangbusters like we all hoped. But Bruins nation it’s time to “pump the brakes” on Tyler Seguin’s demise.
He is NOT Rob Cimetta or Shayne Stevenson (you may have to Google them if you are younger than 30).
Have FAITH in him….
I have developed a “Bromance” with #19...
Pittsburgh Penguins (10-5-0) @ Buffalo Sabres (6-8-1)
NBC, TSN2, 12:30 pm/et
First Niagara Center - Buffalo, NY
The Pens visit Buffalo on a cold Sunday.
The Sabres are 11th in the East and they haven't won two games-in-a-row since the first two of the season. They beat the Bruins 4-2 on Friday. The Pens are one point behind New Jersey for the Atlantic...
After a hard fought, comeback win against the Boston Bruins on Friday night, the Buffalo Sabres have a little more confidence brewing than they did after the last two times the teams met.
In order to keep the confidence growing, the Sabres have to pass a big test this afternoon when they face the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins in a nationally televised game (NBC) on Hockey Day In America...
