Buffalo got Superdomed on Monday night. During the first intermission of the Sabres’ home game against the Wild, a portion of the arena lights at the First Niagara Center shut off, delaying the start of the second period by more than 15 minutes. The lights did eventually come back on, but the night remained dark for the home team. Former Sabres captain Jason Pominville, now in...

GARTH'S CORNER: Goalie 911:Edmonton and Dallas

Should the Buffalo Sabres be giving serious consideration to trading Ryan Miller right now? Last week, I might have said to wait and see what tomorrow brings. Today, I say yes, they should. Miller’s on fire right now. He‘s arguably one of the best tenders in the NHL. His .944 save percentage and 2.29 GAA average have infused more equity in his trade value. Right now,...

Sabres' Vanek keeps an eye on team’s progress

Thomas Vanek entered this season with a clear plan. He wanted to watch the Sabres’ young players perform and gauge their talent level before deciding if he would re-sign with Buffalo. Not surprisingly the opening few weeks haven’t made him rush out to grab a pen. “Right now I’m not ready but I like where we’re heading” the free agent-to-be said Monday. “I think there’s...

GARTH'S CORNER: Sabres Earn First Win

Sportnet's Nick Kypreos reported on Tuesday that Buffalo Sabres GM Darcy Regier is on the hot seat right now. Kypreos mentioned the names of two prospective candidates who might replace Regier if he is moved out of the Buffalo GM position. The Sabres won their first game of the season on Long Island on Tuesday night. Their 1-6-1 record is a cause for concern for Sabres fans because they wa...

GARTH'S CORNER: Ristolainen-chester?

Sabres coach Ron Rolston has eight D-men in Buffalo right now. He only needs 7. Henrik Tallinder will be making his return to the Buffalo lineup tonight after missing the past few games due to an upper body injury. Tallinder will skate with Tyler Myers. Hopefully Hank can help Myers to settle down and remind him to clean up his turnovers and to stop getting caught up ice after rushes are do...

GARTH'S CORNER: Pommer Home for The Holidays

It won't surprise me at all if I learn tomorrow at the game day skate that Jason Pominville and Thomas Vanek had dinner together in Buffalo on Sunday night. The Vaneks and Pominvilles are as close as two young families can be. The best friends have likely had October 13th circled on their personal calendars since the NHL league office released the season schedule in August...

Time For Kaleta To Get The Message

from Chris Stevenson of the Ottawa Sun, The leftovers from Thanksgiving 2013 include the hope NHL vice-president of regulating stupidity Brendan Shanahan will finally get it right and send Buffalo Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta to the back of the fridge until the next time we’re carving a turkey on a special occasion. Christmas would be about right. There are lots of...

Wild-Sabres Preview

The Buffalo Sabres have the NHL's worst record, and they'll try to shed their winless label at home Monday night against the Minnesota Wild. It's been all about a lack of offense for the Sabres (0-5-1), who are looking to avoid matching the worst start in franchise history. They went winless in seven straight to open the 1990-91 and 1999-2000 seasons. This Buffalo club...

Dan Petriw: Isles hope to end slide against the Sabres tonight

The Islanders look to rebound after a weekend where they were held pointless. Tonight they face off against the winless Sabres at 7p at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. I can see this being an unpopular move but...
