from Arthur Staple of Newsday, -- Snow and Steve Bartlett, the agent for Thomas Vanek, have had some dialogue over the past few weeks and that should pick up in the next couple of weeks. Snow and the Islanders need to know in fairly short order if Vanek is willing to sign long-term. If not, it’s obvious (though Snow didn’t expressly say) that Snow would begin fielding offers for Vanek in earnest, with the March 5 trade deadline on the horizon. -- There have been no talks with the agent for Andrew MacDonald, Peter Cooney, of late. MacDonald is believed to be seeking a deal in the range of $5 million a year. The fact that there are no discussions between the two sides should tell you what Snow and the Islanders think of that contract request. a few more notes on the Islanders...

If traded, Thomas Vanek open to signing with Isles after season

With comments in recent days ranging from Steve Bartlett, his agent, to ESPN's Pierre Lebrun and then some response from Islanders GM Garth Snow on Wednesday regarding Thomas Vanek's contract status, I thought I'd talk to Vanek about it Thursday morning. Candid as always, Vanek said he understands that the Islanders need to know in the next week or two whether he'...

Isles’ MacDonald wants $5M per year

About a week ago, PHT asked how large of a raise New York Islanders defenseman Andrew MacDonald might receive with his next deal. That much is still very much in question, but New York Newsday has word on what he wants: $5 million per year. Understatement: that’s a pretty big jump from $550K per season. The Islanders are likely aware that the 27-year-old is far more important...

Hot Tavares, Vanek & Okposo Lead the Offensive Charge for New York Islanders

Getty Images   Six players in the NHL have tallied 20 points since Dec. 17  but none are as hot as New York Islanders captain John Tavares who has 10 goals and 12 assists in his last 16 games. In the 16 game stretch, Tavares has been held off of the scoresheet on three occasions and completed four games with two or more points, including a five point (3g,2a) night against the Dallas...

Vanek's power-play goal lifts Islanders over Rangers

Thomas Vanek scored a power-play goal with 4:38 left, and the New York Islanders rallied from two goals down for a second straight day and beat the New York Rangers 5-3 on Tuesday night. Vanek capped the comeback as the Rangers were trying to kill a penalty for too many men on the ice. Colin McDonald and defenseman Thomas Hickey scored in the second period to get the Islanders even...

Islanders say rehabbing Lubomir Visnovsky won't play in Olympics

Lubomir Visnovsky says he still hasn't given up hope of trying to represent Slovakia at the Olympics next month, but the Islanders will not be allowing Visnovsky to go to Sochi. "This is the first time in my life I don't do anything for three months," said Visnovsky, who had a vigorous skate at Madison Square Garden following the Islanders' morning spin Tuesday...

Follow the bouncing team

Just 2 games involving New York Islander prospects on Wednesday night with both games involving the battle for playoff seeding in the WHL's Eastern Conference. Last night it was Kyle Burroughs (NYI 2013 7th) and his Regina Pats in Calgary to face WHL Eastern Conference leaders the Calgary Hitmen. Islanders Don’t Want Visnovsky Playing In The Olympics

from Arthur Staple of Newsday, Lubomir Visnovsky says he still hasn't given up hope of trying to represent Slovakia at the Olympics next month, but the Islanders will not be allowing Visnovsky to go to Sochi. "This is the first time in my life I don't do anything for three months," said Visnovsky, who had a vigorous skate at Madison Square Garden following...

Kyle Okposo rallies Islanders past Flyers

The Islanders’ latest loss to the Flyers was very fresh in their minds when it appeared they were headed for another one in the home-and-home rematch at the Coliseum. Out of nowhere, the Islanders stormed back from a two-goal deficit in a dominant third period. Kyle Okposo scored the tying goal on a power play late in regulation and then netted the decisive tally in the shootout...

Islanders put on snow show to rally past Rangers

One month and one day ago, the Islanders’ season turned around in a game at the Garden. So on Tuesday night, back at the Garden, they stared down a 3-1 deficit to the Rangers and never flinched. “I really think we controlled most of the game,” said John Tavares, the Islanders star who was speaking about his team, but could have been speaking about himself, putting on a superlative...

Dee Karl: Execution -- and Goals. Winning Combination

After the loss to the FLyers in Philly, John Tavares told the media it was a failure to execute that lead to the loss. We've heard all the terms thrown around by Jack Capuano explaining what leads to a loss and what leads to a win. Execution, goals and some luck is what really leads to a win. You have to score more than your opponent and you can't make any mistakes....

Jan Levine: Game 52: NYI 5 NYR 3, Outworked in Loss, Little Things Matter

The Islanders continued their recent habit of rallying from two-goal deficits, coming back 2-0 and 3-1 down to defeat the Rangers on a snowy Tuesday night at MSG. The Isles outworked the Blueshirts much of the evening, making the Rangers' lead on the scoreboard look better than how they played on the ice. The end result was a disappointing loss for the home team and another solid...

Dan Petriw: Islanders/Penguins Preview

The Islanders are in the midst of an extremely difficulty part of their 2013/2014 schedule. Tonight they return home to face Metro Division leaders; the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Islanders are coming off two come from behind wins against the Flyers and Rangers. However, falling behind to the high flying Penguins is a recipe for disaster. The Pens defeated the Canadiens last night...

Penguins-Islanders Preview

Sidney Crosby scores more points against the New York Islanders than any other team in the NHL, and that's a big reason why the Pittsburgh Penguins have dominated the series of late. Crosby has scored a goal in all three meetings against the Islanders this season, a trend he'll look to continue Friday night at Nassau Coliseum. Crosby leads the NHL with 69 points, and it...

Dee Karl: 'Comeback Kids' Pull off a 5-3 Win

The Islanders have a new name for the month; “The Comeback kids.” For the fans, it’s more like the heart-attack kids. Why they can’t just get a lead and stick with it, I don’t know. It only took Rick Nash 1:02 to score on Kevin Poulin, setting the stage for a Rangers’ win. Ten minutes later, Nash did it again. It was deflating to everyone but the...
