Tim Thomas won the Vezina Trophy, the Conn Smythe Trophy and the Stanley Cup last year. And Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien still isn't ready to name him the No. 1 goaltender heading into the team's title defense.
Julien said at the Bruins' media day on Tuesday that Thomas and Tuukka Rask will start the season sharing the job, with whoever is hot getting the playing time. That's how they did it last year before Thomas stole the job and strung together a dominating performance that earned him playoff MVP honors.
The Bruins won their first Stanley Cup since 1972, and Rask did not play in the postseason at all.
Julien said on Tuesday that they're still both the caliber of No. 1 goalies and he'll treat them that way this season.
