Joffrey Lupul was named the NHL’s first star of the week. Unfortunately, he may go back on the Injured Reserve list after getting sandwich between two Philadelphia Flyers. For the second time in two weeks, a Toronto Maple Leaf’s player has been named a NHL Star of the Week. Last time it was Nazem kadri.  This time it’s Joffrey Lupul, who racked up nine points in just four games last week.  Congratulations Joffrey! The Toronto Maple Leafs seemed to be back to their winning ways by shutting out Ottawa his past weekend 4-0.  ”I think we had a great start and that was one of the things we tried to focus on,” said Leaf’s head coach, Randy Carlyle in the post game press conference. Kadri racked up four points in the game, including his second career hat-trick.  Lupul also had a four point night, with a goal and three assists. James Reimer had a pretty good performance in net, making a total of 31 saves. The Leafs had a four day lay off before they faced their next opponent, the Philadelphia Flyers.  Obviously, it didn’t help them because they ended up losing 5-3. “We didn’t play desperate enough, said Carlyle after the game.  ” We were a step behind.” Carlyle continued by saying, “We weren’t engaged in  the hockey game.”  ”When you score three goals, you should win.” With this loss, the Leafs snapped a three game winning streak. The good news for Leaf fans is Toronto is in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.  Why is this good  news?  Well, it’s because it will be difficult for the teams who are near the bottom of the standings to catch up to the Leafs. Leaf’s captain, Dion Phaneuf got two assists and James Reimer made 26 saves during the  game. There was an incident in the first period of the game involving Lupul.  He got sandwich between two Philadelphia players and suffered a upper-body injury.  No word on how long he’ll be out, but one thing is for sure, it’s doubtful he will be in the line up for  tonight’s game against  the New Jersey Devils.  This couldn’t have happened at a worst time for Lupul.  A player who has been very hot lately since coming off the Injured Reserve list.  Now it seems he might have to go back on the list again for a while.

Maple Leafs to play Red Wings in 2014 Winter Classic

When the NHL locked out its players last fall and shortened the current season to 48 games the league scrapped the annual All-Star game as well as the Winter Classic. Video- Joffrey Lupul Leaves The Ice Very Woozy

Lupul found himself between Adam Hall and Jay Rosehill and you can see Lupul's head snap back but I don't really see anything flagrant on the play and no penalty was called. Lupul went to the dressing room and has not returned.

Concern For Lupul

from Dave Feschuk of the Toronto Star, Whether Lupul’s injury is significant or not is a matter for another day. He wasn’t available for comment after the game. And while Leafs coach Randy Carlyle reported that Lupul felt “fine,” pronouncing him “50-50” to participate in Friday’s practice, it was difficult to know what to make of the coach’s assessments. Mike Augello: Looking Over Their Shoulders; Leafs Vs Devils

One look at the standings is all that is needed to see that making the postseason is not a virtual lock for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Kevin Freiheit: Out of town scores don't favor Buffalo

With both the Rangers and Islanders winning tonight, the Sabres are now six points out from the final spot. The only team that really helped the Sabres was the Toronto Maple Leafs, who beat New Jersey, 2-1. But still, if the Sabres can find a way to beat New Jersey tomorrow night, then they'd be four points behind the Islanders for 8th. The Devils just played tonight and...
