The Rick Nash sweepstakes has featured whispers associated with teams from coast-to-coast. While the Toronto Maple Leafs played as a heavy favourite in speculation, the momentum has swung to the New York Rangers.

And that means there’s going to be players speculated who will be moved to make room for a big contract player like Nash.

Brandon Dubinsky has been that man in New York.

Here’s what he said:

“Trades are part of the game,” Dubinsky said. “Until Slats (GM Glen Sather) calls me and says I’m not here anymore, I’m going to work my butt off. It’s all rumors. It’s just part of the game.”

Having said that, Dubinsky acknowledged it would “suck” if he got traded. “I love it here,” he said. “But I’m not putting too much thought into it. You can’t control what other people say, you can only control what you do. If you do that, the rest of the game, the rest of your career, will take care of itself. That’s the way you’ve got to approach it and keep your focus.”

To which, coach John Tortorella says:

“Those are discussions that you have to have,” Tortorella said. “I’m not going to talk about it one way or another right now because I’m worried about Columbus. But every organization goes through it and they have to have discussions. I know the owners and general managers are always looking to improve their team but there are certain situations and things to discuss as far as chemistry, I’ll give you that. We’re not going to discuss it, I haven’t. I like this hockey club and I’m looking forward to coaching the team against Columbus.”

Dubinsky is under contract until the 2014-15 season and is a cap hit of $4.2 million-a-year. He on pace for a career low, currently with 6 goals and 19 assists.

Rangers Have Questions To Answer When Looking At Rick Nash

from Larry Brooks of the NY Post, If Rick Nash had been an unrestricted free agent last summer, would anyone have thought it a great idea for the Rangers to sign the power winger to a seven-year, $54.6 million contract carrying a cap hit of $7.8 million per?
