The Bruins are far from a finished product right now — at least not the product they expect to be. Jarome Iginla has not yet found the back of the net. Brad Marchand is forcing things and was dropped to the third line in Saturday’s game. And in that 3-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets the Bruins defensemen were at times brutal when breaking the puck out of their zone. But there has been one constant in the first four games: Tuukka Rask. The B’s netminder who should now be in every Vezina Trophy voter’s consciousness after he proved himself with his long run to the Stanley Cup finals has given up a grand total of four goals one in each game with a .965 save percentage. The team in front of him hasn’t been bad mind you. With a handful of new players it’s just that the overall chemistry is not quite there yet. The B’s have deserved each of their wins and if not for a terrific performance from Colorado goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere they could easily be 4-0 instead of 3-1. On the other hand if Rask had let in a soft goal here or there in any of these first four games then we might be feeling a little differently about this team. What Rask has done is provide a team that is still finding itself with a calm reliable presence as the last line of defense. On Saturday he clearly outplayed the reigning Vezina winner Sergei Bobrovsky. “You always like to think it’s going to be a low-scoring game from your end but he’s a good goalie” Rask said. “They don’t give up a lot of chances and when they do he’s there to make the saves. If I let in just one goal then we’ll have a chance. That’s the way it seems to be.” And he’s come up with the occasional terrific save like the one he made on sniper Marian Gaborik with the game on the line late in Saturday’s victory.
