Penguins Must Play Vokoun in Game 5

During the offseason Pittsburgh Penguins GM Ray Shero signed goaltender Tomas Vokoun for multiple reasons. For the entire 2011-12 NHL season the Penguins did not have a dependable backup for Marc-Andre Fleury, and when he faltered there was no place to go. This was never more evident than the display put on during the terrible [...]

Should Iginla Be Playing With Crosby?

With a healthy line-up, Jarome Iginla would likely play alongside Sidney Crosby and Pascal Dupuis. Evgeni Malkin would play with James Neal and Chris Kunitz. Those combinations have proven successful in the past. There's no doubt that Evgeni Malkin and James Neal have great chemistry with one another and Chris Kunitz played well alongside them last season. Crosby and Dupuis also...

Tracking the Playoffs: Islanders vs. Penguins Game 3

One of the great things about the playoffs is the sense that anything can happen. It's an overstated narrative, but it's somewhat true when you think about it. Crazy things happen in a seven-game sample size (goalies standing on their heads, certain players going through a hot streak, etc.) and the heavily favored team doesn't always win. In this Pens/Isles series, the...

Malkin, Hamonic scrap after Game 4

The Pittsburgh Penguins are a very frustrated team, and why shouldn’t they be?  They have been scoring plenty of goals to win games, yet they are only tied 2-2 with the New York Islanders through four games. After the horn blew to end game four, Jarome Iginla and Matt Martin started pushing and shoving.  That’s when both teams came together and Evgeni Malkin and Travis Hamonic...

Vokoun over Fleury? No way

The Penguins have had a lot of trouble with the New York Islanders through the first three games in this series. What was expected to be a quick stroll through the first round of the playoffs has turned into a major struggle for the top seed in the Eastern Conference. Pittsburgh's problems stem with poor puck management in their own end, undisciplined play, and lack of composure...

Crosby on Cover of This Week’s Sports Illustrated

From Sports Illustrated: (NEW YORK – May 7, 2013) – Pittsburgh Penguins’ star Sidney Crosby continues to amaze by coming back from injury better than when he left, writes Michael Rosenberg in this week’s SPORTS ILLUSTRATED.  Since returning from a 13 game absence with a broken jaw, Crosby, who makes his fifth appearance on the SI cover, has scored two goals and assisted...

Did Mike Milbury and Jeremy Roenick call out Sidney Crosby for taking a dive?

I might have to admit, that I agree with Mike Milbury and Jeremy Roenick on this one here. I thought it was a bad call. I also thought that Sidney Crosby went down really easy. The word embellishment was on the tip of my tongue as well, after I saw the play live. If I am not mistaken, they're kind of accusing Sidney Crosby of taking a bit of a dive there... Is that what others...

Sidney Crosby on Sports Illustrated

This one may inspire a bit of anger from some people..... "The Most Amazing Thing About The Most Amazing Player." Yeah, who could be upset at that?.... Sidney Crosby is on one of two Sports Illustrated covers this week. Isles' optimistic outlook takes hit with OT loss

The New York Islanders' rallying cry in their return to the postseason for the first time in six years is ''Believe.'' Even the most ardent of supporters might find that optimism difficult following a deflating home loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Buoyed by a split of the first two games of the first-round series in Pittsburgh, the Islanders came home to Nassau...

Now or Never

Tom Rock offers some much-needed consolation to Marc-Andre Fleury: Fleury can take solace that this first-round performance is not as abysmal as last year's when he melted down against the Flyers and allowed 26 goals in six games. But it's close. Take away his shutout in Game 1 and he's allowed 14 goals in three games, more than the pace as last year's skid....

Dee Karl: Isles Can Beat the Pens, But Not the Officials

When Dan Bylsma took a seat at the table in front of the Stanley Cup back-drop, the microphones had all been tested. However, something went wrong and when he went to answer his first post game question, a long, loud electronic screech filled the 60,000 square foot exhibit hall and it reverberated to your bones. “That was like the building tonight.” the deadpan Bylsma...
