During his post practice press conference yesterday John Tortorella was asked about his thoughts on the Dan Girardi All Star write-in campaign. Here's what he said (1:50 mark)... it me or has the defunct Girardi campaign randomly picked up steam the last two days?...what a strange question to ask Torts. But the Rangers coach gave an inspiring answer. I really may get the campaign going again.  To learn how to vote for Girardi click on the "Read More" tab below. Everyone can vote for Girardi through the online ballot or texting Girardi to the shortcode 81812 (Message and data rates may apply). The best way to get around the 30 vote limit using the online ballot is to create numerous NHL profiles using multiple e-mail accounts. The easiest way to do this is by using disposable e-mail accounts. The way to do this is when you go to register a new profile at just use (i.e., ente...

John Tortorella Postgame Interview; Talks About Anisimov Incident

… Torts said it pretty quickly, Anisimov is a great kid who was not thinking when he did what he did. Torts also said AA crossed the line and he would fully expect his Rangers team to react in the same manner that Tampa Bay did.  Artem really is a great kid, very quiet and [...]

Sauer's Absence Brings Tests, Opportunities For Rangers Defenders

The New York Rangers have been playing without one top-four defenseman all season as Marc Staal has been out of the lineup while trying to recover from a concussion.  The defense has held up better than most could have hoped, and while much of the credit has gone to Dan Girardi and Ryan McDonagh for elevating their games to another level, the contributions of Sauer on defense...

Tortorella post-game

Had some technical/deadline issues thanks to the shootout, earlier deadlines and a brand new computer system. So I never made it to the lockerroom. I did get to John Tortorella’s presser. The coach did not allow Artem Anisimov to address the media regarding his rifle-shot celebration that touched off a melee, but defended Anisimov as a good kid. Tortorella did, however, admit...

Tortorella pre-game presser

John Tortorella spoke about Michael Del Zotto’s progress, about what he expects from Anton Stralman tonight, and how his team has, for two seasons, dealt with injuries without being effected. Here is the pre-game press conference: John Tortorella:

Torts Hasn't Given HBO Restrictions for 24/7

Justin Terranova at the New York Post reports that John Tortorella had to make assurances to HBO and the NHL that he would not interfere with the work of the 24/7 crews..."The coach has made it clear that, yes, he is concerned about things that provide glimpses at their strategy and possibly with their injuries, but he has not given us restrictions on what we can do," HBO...

Torts Shows Concern with HBO Cameras, but No Restrictions

HBO permanently planted their cameras behind-the-scenes with the Rangers this past week to begin their taping for "24/7", which will follow the club from now until the Winter Classic in Philadelphia on January 2. They already have three games of coverage, as not only did they have cameras in place for this past week's match-ups with the Maple Leafs and Lightning, but...

Michael Sauer has a concussion

John Tortorella today confirmed to reporters that Michael Sauer did suffer a concussion on that clean hit by Toronto’s Dion Phaneuf Monday night. Tortorella said Sauer is “day to day” and added he doesn’t know the grade of the concussion. Don’t get fooled by the “day to day” designation. I’m not inferring anything other than there’s no way of knowing what Sauer’s...

Torts: Biggest Improvement for Del Zotto is Mindset

Prior to last night's game John Tortorella discussed Michael Del Zotto's progression this year (via Blueshirts United)..."The thing that's encouraging to me is that I think he listened as we were going through some steps last year, and made some adjustments as far as the mental part of the game," stated Tortorella. "He came into camp in really good shape...

Rangers’ Sauer has concussion

Rangers coach John Tortorella confirmed what was expected. Defenseman Mike Sauer has been diagnosed with a concussion after taking a substantial hit from Toronto’s Dion Phaneuf in Monday’s 4-2 loss and will miss tonight’s home game against the Lightning. “I don’t know what grade,” Tortorella said...

HBO goes behind scenes with Tortorella, Rangers

Discouraged by an early-season loss to the Oilers, Rangers coach John Tortorella held a 16-second press conference where he left without taking any questions. Tortorella will have a much harder time avoiding the cameras and microphones over the next month. HBO began shooting for their four-episode 24/7 series earlier...

Rangers confirm Sauer has concussion

Rangers coach John Tortorella confirmed what was expected. Defenseman Michael Sauer has been diagnosed with a concussion and is day-to-day, although Tortorella said he did not know what grade concussion the 24-year-old suffered. Anton Stralman, who has appeared in one game this season, will replace Sauer in the lineup for...

Sauer Has A Concussion

This news should not come as a shock, but Andrew Gross is reporting that Mike Sauer indeed has a concussion following the massive hit by Dion Phaneuf in the Rangers 4-2 loss on Monday night (video below). The hit was clean, but Sauer’s helmet came off and he hit his head on the boards, which is the likely cause of the concussion. John Tortorella has said that Sauer is day-to-day...

Slap Shot: Rangers Put Discussion of Boogaard Off Limits

Players and Coach John Tortorella declined to speak substantively about the news that their former enforcer Derek Boogaard, who died last May, was found to have had a degenerative brain disease.

We Chat, Live, at noon … so bring your questions and comments

So, instead of working today between noon and 1, or so, act busy, look annoyed, and join us for a Live Chat right here. Again, please bring questions/comments early, and don’t get annoyed if I can’t retort to each one because last time I was overwhelmed by the response. But we can talk about the realignment, or about the loss to the Leaves, or the five-game winning streak...
