I read the release from the Hockey Hall of Fame and couldn’t believe it. Long-time Red Wing Brendan Shanahan, his three Stanley Cups and 600-plus goals won’t be heading to Toronto this year, and I just can’t believe it. It’s insane. That’s it as I’m still sick, but I just can’t believe it. Pavel Bure and Adam Oates are fine players, as is Mats Sundin, but did they win Shanahan’s three Stanley Cups, or help define the term “power forward?” Stunned, just stunned. I’m still very sick, so more on this later.

Regner: Hall sends Shanny message

Brendan Shanahan is a Hall of Fame hockey player. What he was able to accomplish on the ice ranks with the all-time greats of the game. But hockey is rooted in strong traditions and has a code of conduct that one is expected to uphold. Hockey players might be brutish on the ice, but the off-the-ice code calls for them to be gentlemen first and foremost. Combining talent, personality...

Waiting for Shanny Tuesday as former Red Wing Brendan Shanahan’s likely to receive a HHOF call

The Hockey Hall of Fame will announce its 2012 induction class tomorrow at 3 PM EDT (the announcement will be televised on TSN and the NHL Network U.S.), and it’s more or less guaranteed that former Red Wings forward Brendan Shanahan will receive a phone call from the HHOF’s selection committee sometime on Tuesday morning. As such, DetroitRedWings.com’s Bill Roose spoke to...

Brendan Shanahan wasn't left off the ballot for Janney affair

People have their opinions whenever the annual Hockey Hall of Fame class is announced. There are annual favorites who get overlooked (Fred Shero and Pat Burns come to mind), as well as personal heroes that fans would love to see in the hall. No one's ever 100% happy about the end result, but this year I generally noticed a lot less angst than usual regarding the class. Pavel...

Brendan Shanahan Snubbed From Hockey Hall of Fame in First Appearance on Ballot

This was Shanahan's first appearance on the Hall ballot, but he looked like a near-lock to earn admission. Continue reading →

Red Wings overnight report: multiple theories persist regarding Brendan Shanahan’s HHOF snub

By Malik Report standards, five entries in a day is downright delinquent, this sniffly blogger had laid down for an afternoon nap simply because I assumed Brendan Shanahan would obviously be named one of the Hockey Hall of Fame’s 2012 inductees, only to wake and find out that Adam Oates, Joe Sakic, Pavel Bure and Mats Sundin were named to the Hall, but not Shanahan on Tuesday afternoon...

Red Wings overnight report: It’s Shanny’s day, but the Red Wings are ‘selling’ their program, too

Today at 3 PM EDT, TSN and the NHL Network U.S. will air the Hockey Hall of Fame’s announcement of its 2012 induction class, and it’s all but assured that three-time Stanley Cup winner and long-time Red Wing Brendan Shanahan will receive a call from the HHOF’s selection committee sometime this morning. The present-day Red Wings’ organization has stolen some of the spotlight...

Todd Cordell: Lamoriello, Devils have work to do with July 1 approaching + other notes

With the 2012 NHL Entry Draft over and done with and free agency right around the corner, Lou Lamoriello and the New Jersey Devils management staff have undoubtedly turned their attention to re-signing pending unrestricted free agents and restricted free agents. Here are some notes on that, as well as some other Devils related topics. - I'll start off with the big fish. Zach...

Shanahan Shafted

Oates: In Sakic: In Sundin: In Bure: In And Brendan Shanahan has been unbelievably, unfathomably left out.  Bure and Sundin, yes.  Shanny…no.  It’s so pathetic that it’s hard to even muster any anger over this one. Continue reading "Shanahan Shafted"

The 2011-12 Season Ends. Devils and Dust.

The Devils season came to an unfortunate ending, but it was certainly a storied run to the Stanley Cup Finals. For about 48 hours, every New Jersey Devils fan in the world believed history was about to be rewritten. The Devils seemed to have the Kings right where they wanted them, back on their heels, watching their 3-0 series lead slip away to host a Game 6 up 3-2 at the Staples...

Matthew Barry: If N.J. Signs Parise, Kovalchuk Could Be Moved

The New Jersey Devils could be on the verge of filing for bankruptcy. The NHL could take over the franchise. An NHL source said, "If the NHL has to take over the Devils, Kovalchuk will be moved". Ilya is owed 11 million dollars this year and upwards of 11 million dollars the following FOUR years. This is something the Devils simply cannot afford, even with Brodeur...

Elias denies swiping missing Cup puck

Maybe the Los Angeles Kings can put a picture of it on the side of a milk carton, or post signs around Staples Center. The puck from the Kings' Stanley Cup Finals championship has not been seen since Game 6 of that series against the New Jersey Devils on June 11. It was last seen in the glove of Patrik Elias, but the Devils winger tells NJ.com that he doesn't have it. ...

HHOF Screwed Over Shanny

For some reason I couldn't find a similar picture of Sundin... Shanahan was up for the Hockey Hall of Fame this year and I haven't wrote about it, because, well, I figured I'd get to it when he was inducted.  Because of course he'd be inducted right?  Going against the likes of Bure and Sundin, talented guys but ones who never won anything, Shanny and Sakic were...

The Exorcized Devils

By: Mike Luciano (@MikeLuci) I’ve certainly got some explaining to do. My New Jersey Devils made a remarkable run to the Stanley Cup Finals and since the inception of their 2012 postseason campaign, I can probably count the number of pieces I’ve posted on the fingers of one hand. Let me say there is a reason for my inconsistencies and absence from this site since April. Some...

NHL Draft: Detroit Red Wings Nab First Round Talent in the Second Round

By Rhys Richards (@RREsq) In this weekend’s 2012 NHL Entry Draft, the Detroit Red Wings waited until the 49th overall pick in the second round to make the team’s first selection. The extended wait was due to the team trading its first round pick to acquire defenseman Kyle Quincey at the Trade Deadline, but time could prove that the wait was worth it. With the 49th overall...
