Ah, back to backs. The bane of so many road trips. So often it feels like the NHL loves to torture the Sharks but giving them back to backs like Detroit and Chicago and Chicago and Detroit, thus making the experience as tachycardia inducing as possible. This time, The Sharks had the honor of playing two teams who had just played each other, thus closing some weird temporal scheduling circle. With Dallas vanquished, the Avalanche were next. Coming off a three game win streak, you knew the Avs would be non to eager to drop one at home, but there was the hope that the Sharks were riding high and would be more than willing to ruin the Avs plans.

Greiss got the start. Everyone was amazed. Nemo usually gets the bulk of the starts, even in back to backs, but the team seems to think that they rode him too hard to early last year, (which they did), and they remembered they have an effective, non injured backup, so they've been letting him start a few games. Revolutionary, if you ask me.

Did you know Jiggy is still a goalie? He IS! For the Avs. HAI JIGGY.

Colorado took the 1-0 lead partway through the first. Matt Duchene apparently wanted to remind everyone that he was on the ice and that he can do things like score goals and stuff. Personally, I'm not a fan of anyone not a Shark scoring goals.

Patrick Marleau likes to score too, though, so he did about 5 minutes later to tie the game at one.

I guess the Avs were pretty much over scoring after the first, because they didn't do again for the rest of the night. I think they out shot the Sharks, so it wasn't for lack of trying (3 SOG in the third, Sharks? Foreshadowing things to come).

I have been wanting to shout "PATTY HATTY" for at least 2 seasons now. It's just so perfect, and yet, it seems like fate always conspires to limit to Patrick Marleau to 2 goals in any one game. So when he scored his second goal of the game in the second, the team seemed to decide that it was time to break fate's hold and get this man a hat trick. Joe Pavelski scored first though, although Patty had some additional chances that didn't quite connect (slash *coughcough*) to make it 3-1 in the second.

In what feels like poetic justice for the often "GREIR'D IT" Sharks, Patty scored his hatty on an empty net. I did not care and joyously shouted (and typed) PATTY HATTY! having finally seen a dream fulfilled. My title was overshadowed by the far better "hatrick Marleau", but that fact that I was finally able to say something I though tup two seasons ago was glorious. It also says that Marleau needs more hat tricks.

Next up, the Thanksgiving eve battle* between the Hawks and Sharks.

*the biggest battle was staying awake during the game
