In an effort to lighten the mood during the lockout, The New York Rangers Blog will be writing faux recaps for every Rangers game missed due to the work stoppage. Enjoy. Cedar Park, TX - With Hurricane Sandy making tonight's New York Rangers home opener against the Dallas Stars game unplayable, the NHL decided to let the outcome of the two teams' AHL affiliates decide the winner of the game. Because the Whale's home arena, the XL Center in Hartford, was also negatively affected by the megastorm, the NHL forced Connecticut to travel to Cedar Park, Texas to take on the Texas Stars. However, the last minute travel did not deter the Whale as they defeated the Stars 5-2. "Most teams would have folded under these circumstances, but our team seemed buoyed," Whale coach Ken Gernander said. "I'm very proud of the guys tonight." The Whale received a huge lift from a current Rangers player, as the Blueshirts sent Chris Kreider, who did no...

What do the Rangers have in Kyle Jean?

It’s fair to say that when Kyle Jean tried out for the Rangers almost every Ranger fan didn’t have an idea about the young try-out nor were expectations particularly high. After all, try outs come and go in their dozens and rarely does one stick with a club let alone make some noise. So its fair to say that despite a promising pre-season its come as a surprise to many that Jean...

Thomas running out of time?

Can Thomas Jr follow his father in to the NHL? Time is ticking. It may seem incredibly harsh to suggest Christian Thomas’ time as a legitimate prospect is expiring. However such is the media scrutiny on each individual performance, the impatience of fans and media alike, not to mention the enviable depth the Rangers enjoy that it’s a very real possibility that Christian Thomas...

What to make of Del Zotto’s Swiss trip

As you probably will have heard by now Michael Del Zotto is the next Ranger to head over to Europe to get some game time. As Del Zotto laces up for Rapperswil-Jona of the Swiss league he’ll be going to a league that is better than advertised (despite not having the reputation of the Swedish league or the media power of the KHL) and will be joining a league that has evidenced plenty...

Hagelin with minor injury; MSG to air more KHL games

First, I hope that everyone who reads this blog and all of your families are safe. Hurricane Sandy did a number on the tri-state area, and it was by far the worst storm we have ever encountered. I had a close call myself, as a tree that is (was) three feet from my bedroom window snapped, and the top half came crashing down, missing my apartment by about five feet. There was also...

Report of Rangers $2.5 Million Offer to Del Zotto Erroneous

Back in August, Larry Brooks of the New York Post reported that the Rangers had offered Michael Del Zotto a contract in the $2.2 - $2.5 million per year range. However, Del Zotto's agent Mark Guy is now saying that report was false (via New York Times)... “I won’t get into what the negotiations were at prior to the lockout,” Guy said. “We never do, but I can tell...

Stepan Talking to KHL Club

More from overseas: Slovan Bratislava (KHL club) is in talks with Rangers forward Derek Stepan. — David Pagnotta (@TheFourthPeriod) November 2, 2012 ...with more and more players headed overseas, I guess we can pretty much count on the season being canceled. Awesome. Hokej.cz reports that Stepan could arrive in Slovakia early next week. Remember to follow me on...

Del Zotto Still Weighing Offer from Swiss Team

Jeff Klein at the New York Times reports that, despite earlier reports that he has signed, Michael Del Zotto is still weighing an offer to play with Rapperswil-Jona Lakers of the Swiss N.L.A. Del Zotto has until tomorrow to accept the offer... “Nothing is signed, and Michael is considering,” Del Zotto's agent Mark Guy said. “The offer from this club is good for...

Allen American Ice Angels did a Photo Shoot

In case you guys might have forgotten, the Allen Americans play in the Central Hockey League and are the AA affiliate of the Dallas Stars.   Now that we have that settled, it would appear that their cheerleaders are right up there with any NHL ice girls squad.   Personally I think these females are even better. And their recent photo shoot only helps my argument.  Check out...
