HARTFORD, April 3, 2013:  Connecticut Whale general manager Jim Schoenfeld announced today that the Whale has signed defenseman Conor Allen to an Amateur Tryout (ATO) agreement. Allen, who agreed to terms on an NHL free agent contract with the parent New York Rangers last Friday, recently completed his third season of Hockey East play at U. Mass-Amherst.  The 6-2, 210-pound Chicago native scored five goals and added 14 assists for 19 points in 33 games this year, leading Minuteman defensemen in points and assist.  Allen finished third overall on the U. Mass-Amherst squad in assists, and fourth in points, and his 53 penalty minutes were second-most among Minuteman skaters.  In 99 career games in a U. Mass-Amherst uniform, the 23-year-old Allen registered 14 goals and 25 assists for 39 points, while serving 110 minutes in penalties. The Whale’s next action is on home ice this Friday, April 5, when the Springfield Falcons visit the XL Center for a 7:00 PM game.  That is the Whale’s last Friday-night home game of the regular season.  That means it is the last chance to take advantage of the Whale’s special Friday-night food and beverage deal, which features $1 hot dogs and $2 beers until the end of the first intermission. Also on Friday night, “Miracle on Ice” 1980 Team USA gold medal-winning hockey players Jack O’Callahan, Dave Silk and Steve Janaszak will be making a special appearance, to support “A Miracle for Justina”, which is a fund to help defray the associated expenses of Justina, a 14-year-old West Hartford girl who is dealing with a complicated set of health issues. Tickets to all Whale home games start as low as $10 each ($12 each when tickets are purchased on the day of the game), and are on sale now at the Public Power Ticket Office at the XL Center, through TicketMaster Charge-by-Phone at 1-800-745-3000 and on-line at www.ticketmaster.com. For information on all of the Whale’s many ticketing options, visit www.ctwhale.com, or call the CT Whale ticket office at (860) 548-2000 to talk with an account executive today.
