The short answer, I have no effing idea.

One thing I can tell you is that Justin Schultz isn't going to be a Ranger as he announced yesterday that he'll be signing with the Oilers today.

...obviously I'm biased, but what a mistake by Schultz. The Rangers are set up to be Stanley Cup contenders for the next decade. Not so sure you can say the same about the Oilers. I hope he sucks.

...assuming this means Del Zotto stays and no Nash deal.

Speaking of a possible Nash deal....

NYR are not giving Stepan, Kreider or McDonagh to CBJ for Nash no matter how seriously they are (or are not) talking with other teams

— Larry Brooks(@NYP_Brooksie) June 30, 2012

...those three better not be a part of any deal for Nash. Although, if the package was Stepan, MDZ, Thomas and a #1, I might think about it if I was Sather.

On the free agent front, it looks like the Rangers aren't even going to enter the bidding for Parise...

Doesn't appear #Rangers will be making any offer on Parise. Less of coarse he was kidding about his "no way" comment and forgot to tell NY.

— Nick Kypreos (@RealKyper) July 1, 2012

...Parise can't be happy about that because having the Rangers involved in the bidding process could have elevated his price tag significantly.

...so, no Schultz, no Parise and likely no Nash. So what the hell are the Rangers going to do this offseason?

Meanwhile, Brooks pretty much links the Rangers to every free agent, including Shane Doan, Jordin Tootoo, Alex Semin, Jiri Hudler, Brad Boyes and Ray Whitney.

Brooks adds that the Rangers could look to trade for Keith Yandle as well.

...Doan is my guy. Loved him at the trade deadline and still want him now.

...Yandle would be a nice pickup, adding some offense to the blueline. Although he had zero pp goals last year, which won't help the Blueshirts dreadful power play.

In terrible news for the development of Rangers defensive prospects, Jess Rubenstein at The Prospect Park reports that CT Whale assistant coach J. J. Daigneault has accepted a job as an assistant coach for the Montreal Canadians.

Rubenstein adds that it's a loss for the Rangers because Daigneault helped develop Ryan McDonagh, Michael Sauer, Michael Del Zotto and Stu Bickel.

...huge loss for the Rangers especially with 2010 #1 pick McIlrath ready to make the jump to the AHL. Not sure we'll know, but McIlrath may not live up to potential without Daigneault. Although, the Rangers still have Redden to work with him.
