Minnesota Wild goaltender Josh Harding will start Friday's game against the Northwest Division rival Edmonton Oilers.
Harding has fared well this season, posting a 6-1-1 mark with one shutout and a 1.82 goals-against average.
The 27-year-old Saskatchewan native gets the nod after Niklas Backstrom was excused from the team after his wife went into labor.
Backstrom's quick exit left Minnesota with an issue on Wednesday. The Wild recalled Matthew Hackett from the minors, but were uncertain if he'd reach the arena in time.
As a result, they signed 51-year-old Paul Deutsch to an amateur tryout prior to Wednesday's contest.
