As reported earlier this week, Minnesota Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom was injured against the Nashville Predators during their game Tuesday night, a 3-2 loss where he let up two goals on five shots and sustained the injury when Nashville forward Eric Nystrom crashed into him and accidentally jammed Backstroms’s leg into the post. Today however, the Wild have announced Backstrom is day-to-day. In his relief that night, Josh Harding performed very well, stopping 19 of 20 shots. It was a key performance as he most likely will be called on to mind the net once again. The Wild next play at home against the Winnipeg Jets, then Saturday against Dallas, then hit the road for four games in six nights against Buffalo, Toronto, Tampa Bay, and the Florida Panthers. The Wild took a gamble on Backstrom by re-signing him to a three year $10.25 million deal back in July, so they are interested to see how he recovers from the injury.
