The Minnesota Wild travel to Long Island tonight to take on the New York Islanders in a cross conference contest. Minnesota is coming off of a loss to the Chicago Blackhawks Monday night, in which they did pick up some momentum in the 3rd period, scoring 2 goals after being down 3-0 at the start of the final 20. The Islanders have lost 3 straight, the latest being a 2-1 overtime loss to the Washington Capitals.
Niklas Backstrom will get the start between the pipes again tonight. Backstrom made 30 saves against the Blackhawks in a 4-2 loss. Jed Ortmeyer has been called up from the Houston Aeros to replace Chuck Kobasew, who left practice with an illness yesterday.
This will be a great opportunity for the Wild to get back on track after an ugly loss on Monday. While Minnesota is the only team in the Western Conference to not have at least a .500 record against Eastern Conference foes, the Islanders are not a super team, sitting in 14th place in the East.
