The Minnesota Wild announcedThursday that the team will soon install lavender dasher boards at Xcel Energy Center, as part of its annual Hockey Fights Cancer Night, presented by AT&T, this Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings. The dashers will be installed Friday between 1-3 p.m. The Wild is one of five NHL teams participating in this initiative. Wild forward Cal Clutterbuck knows the value of Saturday's event. "Obviously we all have family members or friends whose lives have been affected by cancer," he noted, "so to be a part of something like this is very important for all of us. It really puts the game of hockey in perspective, that's for sure." Hockey Fights Cancer Night will highlight the special pediatric cancer guests the Wild has hosted in suites and donated seats, and who have taken part in memorable experiences like being a flag-bearer and bench buddies, as well as the month-long partnerships with local cancer organizations like the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Fans will see the Wild coaching staff, management and broadcasters wearing lavender ties and HFC pins. Players will have HFC decals on their helmets, while several players will sport lavender tape on their sticks. Wild defenseman Nick Schultz says this is just a small gesture, "It is the least we can do," said Schultz. "Hopefully this event will help the many cancer-related charities raise more money for this great cause. I'm excited to see how our building will look, it will certainly be a unique-looking dasher." FS North will have all of the festivities covered, starting at 6:30 p.m. with Wild Live presented by Century Link. Saturday's game will be the first of back-to-back contests against the Red Wings, as the Wild travel to play in Detroit on Tuesday night.

Latendresse will be 'available' for the Wild

WEDNESDAYS STORYLINE: Guillaume Latendresse was back on the ice today for the Wild after missing last Saturdays game at Vancouver and the last 3 practices. "(Latendresse) felt great out there, he felt better than he has in a couple weeks. He thinks he is available if we want to use him, said head coach Mike Yeo. If Latendresse does come back tomorrow night against Anaheim...

Wild defenseman Zanon is placed on IR

SAINT PAUL, Minn. The Minnesota Wild on Saturday placed defenseman Greg Zanon on injured reserve and recalled defenseman Nate Prosser from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League. Zanon, 31, has a groin injury and had played in seven games this season, the last being the Wild's win against Edmonton on Oct. 20. He has scored one goal this season, Oct. 15 against the...

Wild used their time off to 'review'

THURSDAY'S STORY LINE: After a day of rest Sunday and three hard practices, Minnesota gets back on the ice Thursday night against the Anaheim Ducks. Four days without a game is rare in hockey, and the Wild made the best of their time off. "Any time you can get rest in a season it helps out," forward Devin Setoguchi said. "We have four days off, and we have to...

Yeo wants Wild to start crashing the net

FRIDAY'S STORY LINE: "We need to add to the way we try to score goals," said Mike Yeo after practice today. Yeo emphasized how he wants his team to go the net more often. "Look at the way goals are scored, and across the board (in the NHL) every game, it's the same thing. At least four out of the 5 goals in every game, you get a puck into that area around...

The Blonde Curse

After countless hours reviewing film, I think I've finally come up with a reason why the Minnesota Wild don't have much (ok, any) success in the playoffs: it's that blonde chick that always sits behind the home bench. Since she started sitting there many years ago, the Wild have had only one successful playoff run. Could she be the Wild's version of the Wrigley Billy...

Minnesota Wild Honor Derek Boogaard

MSG may have dropped the ball at honoring Derek Boogaard, but the Minnesota Wild did not. Here is the video shown by the Wild:

Detroit Red Wings (5-3-0) at Minnesota Wild (3-3-3), 8 p.m. (ET)

Wild head coach Mike Yeo isn't putting the blame of his team's slow start on the shoulders of any one player. Still, the club's stars know they need to step up their game if they want to avoid a fifth loss in six outings.
