ST. PAUL, Minn. The Minnesota Wild have reached agreement with another of their free agents two days before the opening of NHL free agency on Sunday.
The team agreed to terms on a two-year contractwith defenseman Chay Genoway on Friday, one of Minnesota's restricted free agents. Genoway, 25, spent most of last season with the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League, scoring seven goals and passing out 29 assists for the Wild's minor-league squad.
Genoway, who was signed as a free agent last summer out of the University of North Dakota, made his NHL debut in the final game last season on April 7 and added his first NHL point with an assist.
Genoway is the fourth player to re-sign with Minnesota this week, joining Matt Kassian, Stephane Veilleux and Chad Rau. Kassian agreed to a two-year, one-way contract on Thursday. Rau and Veilleux each agreed to two-way deals on Sunday. Rau re-signed for two year and Veilleux for one.
NHL free agency begins at noon on Sunday, July 1.
