ST. PAUL, Minn. The Minnesota Wild locked up one of their core young players when they re-signed defenseman Marco Scandella to a two-year contract on Monday. Scandella, 23, spent most of last season with the Houston Aeros in the American Hockey League after he played 63 games in his rookie season with Minnesota in 2011-12. Scandella was recalled late last season for Minnesota and was a key contributor in the teams playoff series. Scandella had one goal in six regular-season games and then had a goal and an assist in five playoff games, averaging 18 minutes, 1 second of ice time in the playoffs, good for fourth on the team. A second-round pick by the Wild in the 2008 draft, Scandella had two goals and 15 assists in 45 games for Houston last season. In 2011-12, Scandella had three goals and nine assists for Minnesota in his first full NHL season. Follow Brian Hall on Twitter
