ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The high price to acquire forward Jason Pominville at the trade deadline last season has come into full context for the Minnesota Wild. Minnesota sent two prized prospects, a 2013 first-round pick and a 2014 second-rounder to the Buffalo Sabres at the trade deadline last season to acquire Pominville, the Sabres' captain and a six-time 20-goal scorer. The Wild softened the blow of dealing the young assets by signing Pominville to a five-year contract-extension Thursday, hours before the season opener against the Los Angeles Kings. Pominville was signed through this season, but is now with the team through the 2018-19 season. Several media outlets report the extension to be worth 28 million, an average of 5.6 million per year. The 30-year-old Pominville, who is scheduled to make 5.5 million in 2013-14, has 189 goals and 276 assists and a plus-41 rating in 588 games over nine seasons in the NHL.
