On Thursday, 22-year-old Jared Staal made his NHL debut for the Carolina Hurricanes after being called up earlier this week from the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers. Making a momentous occasion that much sweeter, he did so alongside two of his brothers, Eric and Jordan, as the Hurricanes faced the New York Rangers, who coincidentally have another one of the Staal brothers, Marc (although he’s out of lineup with an eye injury). The icing on the cake was that Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller allowed the Staal brothers to start the game on the same line, surprisingly becoming the third set of brothers to play on the same line in NHL history. With all three brothers about to compete as teammates, one Eric’s sons made an adorable sign wishing his dad and two uncles good luck. ‏@MikeSundheim: Adorable. It was such an obviously big moment for the Staal family that Henry Staal, the father of four NHL-playing boys, flew up to see Jared’s debut and watch three of his sons play on the same team. As an 18 year old, he had a 31-goal season, recorded 61 points and produced at an astounding rate of 2.49 points per 60 minutes during 5-on-5 play. A rookie putting up those kind of numbers is rare and it's unheard of for an 18-year old to have that kind of year. Having a rookie season like this will...

Finding a back-up goaltender

There have been a lot of things that have led to the Hurricanes collapse over the last month but one of the most popular explanations for it is Cam Ward's injury. Ever since Ward sprained his MCL, the Canes are 7-16-3 and their even strength save percentage has plummeted from an average .920 to .910. Bad goaltending can sink any team and the Hurricanes have experienced that first...
