Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that Wojtek Wolski (hernia sugery) should be able to return to the Rangers lineup by the end of the week meaning the Blueshirts will need to make some roster moves.

Brooks adds that The Rangers are currently at the 23-player roster limit, which does not include injured players Wolski, Marc Staal, Michael Sauer and Steve Eminger.

The holiday roster freeze ends tomorrow, so Brooks says if Jeff Woywitka (foot) is able to play against the Islanders tonight, the Rangers will most likely send Tim Erixon back to the CT Whale to open up a roster spot for Wolski.

With the Rangers already carrying two extra forwards, Brooks feels that either Sean Avery or Erik Christensen will be moved soon.

To make room for Wolski in the Rangers line-up, Brooks thinks that Mike Rupp is the likely candidate to become a healthy scratch.

...someone get Wolski a towel because he's getting out of the tub.

...a lot of what's going to happen with the line-up will have to do with Wolski's performance when he gets back. Despite carrying a $3.8 million cap hit I don't think Torts has any problem sitting the enigmatic winger in the press box. If Wolski does excel upon his return, we'll probably see a 12th forward carousel with Rupp, Mitchel and depending on who gets traded Avery or Christensen.

...agree with Brooks that it won't be long before either Avery or Christensen are off the team, whether it's a trade or assignment to the Whale. Absolutely no need to carry three extra forwards.

For information on Staal's possible return date click the "Read More" tab below.

Brooks also reports that Staal could make his season debut in two weeks and that Sauer seems to be improving.

...i will be doing back flips if Staal can return in two weeks.

Speaking of Staal he tells NHL.com that it "sucks" that he probably won't play in the WInter Classic
