ALEXEI PONIKAROVSKY RUMORS
Shaquille O’Neal had a very busy day with the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. He got to drive the Zamboni, ride on it and even dropped a ceremonial puck wearing a way too tight Alexei Ponikarovsky jersey. Always cool to see star athletes at sporting events that aren’t their former or current sport.

Another former New Jersey Devil is heading overseas.
This time it's veteran winger Alexei Ponikarovsky, who has signed with SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL. Ponikarovsky, 33, signed a two-year deal with SKA and will join former Devil, Ilya Kovalchuk.
Ponikarovsky had a less than mediocre season during the lockout shortened year...

My thoughts on the trade:
First and foremost, this move was made in large part due Dainius Zubrus' injury uncertainty...

For all those Winnipeg Jets fans who were Toronto Maple Leafs fans in the interim between the Jets first NHL team and second NHL team, there must have been alot of groaning going on when the Jets signed another former Maple Leaf player to the fold.

Free-agent forward Alexei Ponikarovsky agreed to a one-year, $1.8 million contract with the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. Ponikarovsky, 32, had seven goals and eight assists in 49 games for Carolina last season before being traded to the New Jersey Devils, where he had seven goals and 11 assists in 33 games. He also had a goal and eight assists in 24 games for New Jersey in the 2012...
One of my favorite moves that Jim Rutherford made last off-season was the signing of Alexei Ponikarovsky to a one-year deal at a very low cost of $1.50 mil. I liked this move because while Ponikarovsky was coming off a bad season with the Los Angeles Kings (5 goals, 15 points in 61 games), he was previously an 18-21 goal scorer for a good part of his career and had top-six potential...
Alexei Ponikarovsky scored on his own rebound with 2:39 left in overtime, and the New Jersey Devils defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 Thursday night to take a 2-1 lead in this Eastern Conference semifinal series.
Patrik Elias, Ilya Kovalchuk and Zach Parise also scored for the Devils, who killed off two penalties in overtime before Ponikarovsky came through with his first goal...
