DEREK DORSETT RUMORS

Dorsett looks to rekindle relationships with Canucks

You don’t play the game the way Derek Dorsett does without developing a few enemies along the way. Last season alone Dorsett had 12 fighting majors (preseason included) according to HockeyFights.com. Two of those fights came against the Vancouver Canucks. During a pre-season game last September, he dropped the mitts with Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa. Then during a regular...

Dorsett Traded to Canucks for 3rd Round Pick

Rangers have traded winger Derek Dorsett to Vancouver for a third-round pick — Larry Brooks (@NYP_Brooksie) June 27, 2014 The Rangers now have the 85th and 89th picks in the 3rd round tomorrow. Dorsett was going into the final year of his contract that paid him $1.633M per. …looks like a salary cap dump to me. Assuming this means Carcillo will be back on the cheap. #carcilloeffect...

Rangers trade Derek Dorsett to Vancouver

The Rangers have traded winger Derek Dorsett to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a third round pick (#85) in this year’s draft. With the cap rumored to be around $68 million, the Rangers needing to sign some key UFAs and RFAs, and the emergence of Dan Carcillo as a viable option for the fourth […] The post Rangers trade Derek Dorsett to Vancouver appeared first on Blue Seat Blogs.

Rangers trade Dorsett to Canucks for a pick

The Rangers have traded Derek Dorsett to the Canucks in exchange for a third round pick (85th overall) in the 2014 draft. I speculated earlier that Dorsett may be traded in favor of Dan Carcillo or a cheaper alternative for the fourth line as a means to open up some cap space. A third round pick for a fourth line face puncher isn’t a bad return for the Rangers.

Derek Dorsett Snows Small Child During Canadiens’ Pregame Ceremony

Derek Dorsett didn’t really come off a high character guy during Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals in Montreal. Not only did the Rangers forward headbutt Mike Weaver during the Canadiens’ victory, he also snowed of the Habs’ young flag bearers prior to the game. Trying to get under an opponent’s skin and gain an edge in the series is one thing, but this isn’t that...

Quick lineup change: Dorsett in for Carcillo

Per Pat Leonard, Derek Dorsett will be taking Dan Carcillo’s spot in the lineup tonight against Carolina. Dorsett’s last game was March 5th against Toronto. This move might make some people angry considering Carcillo’s strong play with the Rangers, but Dorsett is the more balanced player. His ability to take shifts in the defensive zone late in the game –not to mention his...

Practice Notes: Rangers practice schedule; Dorsett skating

In injury news, Derek Dorsett is skating in a non-contact jersey, and hopes to be ready when the season resumes next week. Dorsett has missed 17 games with a broken leg suffered against Pittsburgh on January 3. Also, per Steve Zipay, the Rangers –who practiced yesterday– will have practice today, tomorrow, and Monday through Wednesday. The Olympians will rejoin the team on Wednesday...

A New York Rangers Fan Guide: Can I root for Carcillo?

When the New York Rangers acquired Dan Carcillo early in January, there was a minor revolt within the team’s fanbase. Carcillo, thanks to three years of douchebaggery on the Flyers from 2008 to 2011, had become one of those players you have to hate to call yourself a Rangers fan. To see the team then go out and trade for the guy felt like inviting Denis Potvin to Christmas dinner...

Derek Dorsett resumes skating

Derek Dorsett, the only trade deadline acquisition that has not played for the Rangers yet, skated today before practice (per Katie Strang). This was Dorsett’s first time skating since breaking his collarbone on March 8th while still with Columbus. Dorsett is a physical player who would fill out the fourth line with some more gritty play and a slight offensive touch (roughly...

Jackets' Dorsett dodged more serious injury

Blue Jackets right winger Derek Dorsett is 24 years old, too young to get the comparison made between himself and the old-school cartoon character Gumby. But it certainly applies. Dorsett appeared to suffer a serious injury last Saturday in a 5-3 loss to the Boston Bruins, when he twisted his left leg under him as he fell backward following a collision with Boston goaltender Tim...
