NHL Playoffs: Redwings vs Blackhawks Game 2 Preview
In the all important game 2, the Red Wings will look to even up the series against their hated rivals the Chicago Blackhawks.
After watching game one of the conference semifinals series between the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks, I have realized two things: 1. The Chicago Blackhawks is probably the most complete team in the NHL. 2. There is way too many Blackhawks...
In Defense of... Howard?
Of all the players from last night’s failure that could be talked about in a non-positive light, I would think that Howard would not be one of them. I would be wrong, though. Sure there are some fans out there who don’t really know any better. They see the other team score and want to blame the last guy to screw up, meaning the goalie. But I didn’t expect to see a report on...
Red Wings drop Game 1: Reason for panic in Detroit?
The Detroit Red Wings played a grueling series against the Ducks of Anaheim in the playoffs’ first round, and it showed Wednesday night against the Chicago Blackhawks.
In the first game of the second round, the Red Wings looked outmatched, getting outshot by a whopping margin of 42-21. Detroit was able to battle and take a 1-1 tie into the third period, but it was then that the...
Red Wings-Blackhawks Game 1 quick take: showing up would’ve helped
This one ain't right. Whatever happened, the Detroit Red Wings' players owe Jimmy Howard much, much more than a couple of goals over however long what the media is deeming "four games along the Hawks' road to the inevitable Penguins-Hawks Cup Final."
The Detroit Red Wings plain old didn't show up for the second half of a game that could have been theirs...
Howard great but Wings not in Game 1
The Detroit Red Wings got good enough goaltending to win Game 1 in Chicago.
Jimmy Howard was everything they could have hoped for, withstanding a 41-shot onslaught, including stopping all 17 shots in the second period to preserve a 1-1 tie.
"I think Howie saved us, for sure, in the second period," defenseman Jonathan Ericsson told FOX Sports Detroit's John Keating...

Corey Perry kicks Jimmy Howard in the balls not once, but twice (video/GIF)
During Wednesday’s match-up between the Anaheim Ducks and Detroit Red Wings in Game 5 of the teams’ Western Conference quarterfinals series, Ducks winger Corey Perry committed two separate egregious affronts to the crotchal region of Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard within a few-second time span. It appears that the first one netted Perry a two-minute [...]The post Corey Perry...
Wings get big game out of Jimmy Howard
DETROIT Sometimes one game, one solid performance, one game-changing moment can transform the course of an athletes career.
Melodramatic, perhaps, but Jimmy Howard not only needed to win in a must-win situation, he needed to be the difference-maker.
We can harp all we want on the Red Wings rookies coming of age in Detroits gripping, 3-2 overtime victory against Anaheim; however...

Howard must stand tall
For the Red Wings to advance in these Stanley Cup playoffs, goalie Jimmy Howard must be better.
Especially now that rookie defenseman Danny DeKeyser is out for the year with a broken thumb. Since his arrival late in the regular season, DeKeyser has stabilized the defense, and his loss will be difficult for the Wings to overcome, unless Howard elevates his game.
Leading 4-1 nearly...

Wings' playoff hopes rest on Howard
The Detroit Red Wings' playoff hopes begin and end with goaltender Jimmy Howard.
It would be nice if one of Detroits skilled forwards suddenly regained his goal-scoring touch, which would take some of the burden off of Howard.
But realistically, which forward seems ready to step up and be a goal-scoring machine?
Except for Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, there isnt another...

Red Wings mid-day news: on workhorse Howard, grumpy Franzen, DeKeyser and prospects
The Detroit Red Wings face a must-win situation when they tangle with the Calgary Flames this evening (9:30 PM EDT, FSD Plus/TSN/97.1 FM), but the Wings' "morning" skate won't take place until around 1:30 PM EDT, so here's a round-up of the stories that were posted too late (or early) to make the overnight report:
MLive's Brendan Savage duly notes that...
