Why 2013 was one of the Detroit Red Wings’ best seasons
It’s hard to imagine that for a team with 11 Stanley Cups, a loss in the Western Conference semifinals could be considered a good season.
But it was.
It’s hard to imagine that a team with such prestige and history could fall short of reaching even the Conference Finals, let alone the Stanley Cup Finals, and leave the rink with heads held high.
But they should.

Jimmy Howard’s Remarkable 2-on-1 Save Preserves Game 4 Shutout: Video
Jimmy Howard turned aside 28 shots Thursday night in a sensational effort to hand the Detroit Red Wings a 2-0 win and 3-1 series lead over the Chicago Blackhawks. No save was more important — or more impressive — than his sprawling denial of Dave Bolland’s shot during a Chicago 2-on-1.
Detroit defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo got caught trying to make a play at center ice, freeing...
Jimmy Howard, Red Wings Beat Blackhawks (Again)

Wings roll with Howard in net
DETROIT (AP) -- Jimmy Howard's cat-quick reflexes in net and easygoing nature out of it are big reasons the Detroit Red Wings are on a roll.
Howard has held top-seeded Chicago to only one goal in two straight games, lifting seventh-seeded Detroit to a 2-1 series lead. He was the star of the end-to-end, high-paced Game 3 the Red Wings won 4-1 on Monday night, when he became their...

NHL Playoffs: Wings vs Blackhawks Game 3 Preview
In a pivotal game 3, I will tell you why the Red Wings will take a 2-1 series lead against their rivals the Chicago Blackhawks.
Payback is a “female dog” as fans from Detroit would like to say.
What I am referring to is the 4-1 beat down the Red Wings put on the Chicago Blackhawks in game 2 of this conference semifinals series. This came after the Blackhawks gave Detroit a 4...
In Defense of... Howard?
Of all the players from last night’s failure that could be talked about in a non-positive light, I would think that Howard would not be one of them. I would be wrong, though. Sure there are some fans out there who don’t really know any better. They see the other team score and want to blame the last guy to screw up, meaning the goalie. But I didn’t expect to see a report on...
Red Wings drop Game 1: Reason for panic in Detroit?
The Detroit Red Wings played a grueling series against the Ducks of Anaheim in the playoffs’ first round, and it showed Wednesday night against the Chicago Blackhawks.
In the first game of the second round, the Red Wings looked outmatched, getting outshot by a whopping margin of 42-21. Detroit was able to battle and take a 1-1 tie into the third period, but it was then that the...
Wings get big game out of Jimmy Howard
DETROIT Sometimes one game, one solid performance, one game-changing moment can transform the course of an athletes career.
Melodramatic, perhaps, but Jimmy Howard not only needed to win in a must-win situation, he needed to be the difference-maker.
We can harp all we want on the Red Wings rookies coming of age in Detroits gripping, 3-2 overtime victory against Anaheim; however...

Howard must stand tall
For the Red Wings to advance in these Stanley Cup playoffs, goalie Jimmy Howard must be better.
Especially now that rookie defenseman Danny DeKeyser is out for the year with a broken thumb. Since his arrival late in the regular season, DeKeyser has stabilized the defense, and his loss will be difficult for the Wings to overcome, unless Howard elevates his game.
Leading 4-1 nearly...

Red Wings mid-day news: on DeKeyser, Howard, the trade deadline and Frk
Amongst today's Red Wings-related news stories:
TSN's Bob McKenzie reports that Danny DeKeyser may be receiving the kind of "wining and dining" treatment usually reserved for NHL superstars and not 23-year-old #3/4 defenseman in the making, but DeKeyser needs to make a decision as to which one of the probably 20+ teams that have made presentations at Newport...
