Patrick Kaleta might have played his last game in a Buffalo sweater. Just don't tell him that. The agitator will turn 29 in June, and as a player who features in the less glamorous side of the game -- killing penalties, defending teammates in brawls, chipping in through small plays to help the team with little glory in return -- Kaleta is unlikely to be a vital part of Buffalo's plan...
Now here's something you never see: Buffalo Sabres right winger Patrick Kaleta punched himself in the face during a fight with Ottawa Senators defenseman Jared Cowen in the first period of Monday night's game at the Canadian Tire Centre. It seemed that Kaleta punched himself in an apparent attempt to "wake himself up", as it led to a flurry of punches against Cowen. Uh, Patrick Kaleta, you’re doing that whole fighting thing wrong. Buffalo Sabres right winger Patrick Kaleta got into a punching match with Ottawa Senators defenseman Jared Cowen. In the heat of the Monday night tussle, it looks like Kaleta gave himself a left cross to his own face before landing one on Cowen. Sometimes you just gotta hit something. [CBSSports.com]

The weirdest part is that the punch to the face looked intentional, as if Kaleta is pumping himself up while the fight was going on. He may have been trying to adjust some equipment and got a little carried. Bizarre.

Sabres winger Patrick Kaleta was scratched due to snow. It...

Kaleta lives in Hamburg, a town about a 20-minute drive south of Buffalo, where a severe lake effect snowstorm was dumping more than 4 feet of snow since Monday night. Coach Ted Nolan announced Kaleta's absence a few hours before the game began. Kaleta...
