Club president Geoff Molson made the move official at a noon hour press conference...

Gauthier's firing opens door for new era
On Thursday morning, Montreal Canadiens GM Pierre Gauthier was relieved of his duties. After taking over the helm from long-time GM Bob Gainey two seasons ago, Gauthier was often scrutinized for not fixing his predecessor's mistakes. Furthermore, his hiring of Randy Cunneyworth was not only criticized out of proportions, it was never given a chance. Simply put, it was time. Perhaps...

Perhaps more importantly, Bob Gainey was also released from his role as special...

In Defence of Pierre Gauthier
Pierre Gauthier often gets a bad rap amongst Montreal media and fans.
And why shouldn’t he? He is at the helm of the worst team in the Eastern Conference and his cold, professorial demeanour is most off-putting. His whole treatment of the Jacques Martin firing and Randy Cunneyworth hiring leaves much to be desired as well.
But, when one looks behind the frigid facade and...
