The Columbus Blue Jackets made a trade today involving RJ Umberger. Yes, the player who was routinely a late season scratch this past season. No, they didn’t have to retain any salary. Did they get themselves a player that was any good? That answer seems to be a resounding yes.

Taking a quick look at the numbers...
As you’ve probably all heard by now, the not-so-curious-case of RJ Umberger is a rather large headline going into the offseason. A stable presence since 2008, the veteran forward has asked for a trade from the Columbus Blue Jackets after a disappointing end to an already disappointing 2013-2014 season. RJ has seen a recent decline, starting after the lockout in 2012.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, Blue Jackets winger R.J. Umberger has requested to be traded this summer.
As the Jackets made their playoff push late in the season, Umberger was consistently a healthy scratch and the Dispatch sites that this may be one of the reasons for the request.
Umberger's contract runs through the 2016-17 season and has a no-trade clause in his contract...
