Ryan Wilson was considered a top-four Avalanche defenseman at the start of the season, leading the club in plus-minus and serving as its premier hitter from the back end.

Aaron Musick: Who should sit for Wilson?
Good news everyone! Ryan Wilson is off IR and he is ready to come back to the lineup.
He probably will not start in tonight's game against the Blackhawks but he will get back into the lineup sometime relatively soon.
This brings up a rather peculiar question, one which the Avalanche just dealt with not but two weeks ago. The Avs are doing well, in fact they are doing better...

He’s baaaackkk! Ryan Wilson video interview
Rugged Avalanche defenseman Ryan Wilson was activated today and will be available when the team visits the Blackhawks on Friday and the Blues on Saturday. Wilson, who has missed the past 13 games with a head injury, is second on the team in plus-minus, at plus-5, and led the team in that category when he banged his head off the glass at Vancouver on Dec. 6. Lapierre hit on Wilson still irks Avalanche
With Kyle Quincey out tonight with a groin injury, the Avalanche is, in my mind opinion, missing its top two defensemen. Ryan Wilson, who went from undrafted free agent to a top-four D-man for any NHL team, remains out with a head injury and Vancouver’s Max Lapierre goes unpunished. Wilson’s head was smashed against the glass by Lapierre in a game last week in Vancouver...

First-period hits on Wilson and Booth contribute to chippy third period
VANCOUVER — Hockey drama in the third period and postgame about what happened in Vancouver’s 6-0 victory tonight at Rogers Arena. Never like to see players get hurt, but ramifications of the head injury to Avs defenseman Ryan Wilson and the leg injury to Canucks forward David Booth will undoubtedly be remembered the rest of the season or beyond.
