Local organizers of the National Finals Rodeo ensured the iconic event remains firmly rooted in Las Vegas by extending its contract through 2035. The move, approved unanimously by the LVCVA board of directors, comes with a commitment of $33 million over 11 years, starting in 2025.

The decision to solidify Las Vegas as the home of the NFR follows a decade-old controversy when the PRCA considered relocating the event to Florida. Now, with this extension, the Thomas & Mack Center at UNLV will continue to host the rodeo, maintaining its tradition and significance within the community.

In addition to the financial backing, the board also allocated $500,000 to market Las Vegas at various rodeos across North America leading up to December's 10-day spectacle. This strategic effort aims to draw more rodeo enthusiasts to the city, further enhancing its tourism during what is traditionally a slower period.

While there were discussions about the potential of relocating the rodeo to venues with larger capacities, such as Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, the decision ultimately reaffirms Las Vegas' unique appeal and its ability to elevate events like the NFR.

Despite occasional disruptions, such as the temporary move in 2020 due to pandemic-related restrictions and a rescheduled performance in response to a tragic incident on the UNLV campus in December, the enduring partnership between the PRCA and Las Vegas remains strong.

Steve Hill, President and CEO of LVCVA, emphasized the mutual desire between PRCA and Las Vegas to preserve this iconic collaboration. Acknowledging the efforts of key figures like Bill McBeath and Michael Gaughan, Hill emphasized the city's commitment to ensuring the NFR's continued success and economic impact.

This extension formalizes negotiations initiated during the last NFR held in Las Vegas in December, reaffirming the city's dedication to maintaining its status as the premier destination for the National Finals Rodeo.
