Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez is hoping to find an agreement with the club over a contract extension soon enough.

The club directors have been negotiating with the player’s agent Alejandro Camano for several months.

Both parties have been stating that the final accord is imminent, but the white smoke has yet to emerge.

The Argentine star has a contract valid until 2026, so his future at the club isn’t in doubt.

Yet, the management is hoping to secure his services in the long run by tying him to a new deal until 2029.

Many sources claim the two parties are working on bridging the gap between the player’s salary request and the club’s offer, while others believe the management is waiting for Suning to settle the Oaktree loan before finalizing the operation.

But whatever the case may be, Lautaro reveals that the parties are working on the new contract.

“We are working on the contract extension. We hope to find an agreement,” said the 2022 World Cup winner while attending the Gentleman Fair Play Award in Milan via FcInterNews.

“I’m happy and proud of what I have achieved in my career. I always thank my teammates, the staff and all the fans who are always by our side.”

The 26-year-old admitted he didn’t imagine he was going to find this much success when he joined the club in 2019.

“Honestly no, but I worked very hard. From day one, Inter gave me a great hand.

“I’m grateful for this and I try to show it on the pitch. We must continue on this path.”
