Former Bayern Munich star Jerome Boateng only joined Salernitana two days ago but starts his first game in over eight months against Torino on Sunday.
Boateng officially joined Serie A strugglers Salernitana on February 2 and Filippo Inzaghi has already chosen him to start in an away game at Torino on Sunday.
What’s even more surprising about Inzaghi’s decision is that Boateng hasn’t played a competitive game since June 3, 2023, when he started in Lyon’s 3-1 loss against OGC Nice.
Boateng only made eight Ligue 1 appearances with Lyon last season so the French club did not extend his contract at the end of June.
Boateng, a World Cup and Champions League winner with Germany and Bayern Munich, has signed a contract until the end of the season with Salernitana.
It is believed that his former Bayern teammate Franck Ribery, now a staff member in Salerno, played a key role in negotiations with the 35-year-old centre-back.
