Hearts of Oak’s in-form striker Mahatma Otoo
David Duncan says the choice to start striker Mahatama Otoo in Ghana’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Sudan as purely up to coach Akwasi Appiah.
The Hearts of Oak trainer is currently profiting from the good form of the 21-year-old who has now scored nine goals in the Ghanaian top flight.
Otoo’s good form – scoring two in two games has earned him his debut call up to the Black Stars for Sunday’s curial World Cup qualifier in Kumasi.
But Duncan refuses to put his lead striker up for a starting place against Sudan despite admitting to his good form – leaving that decision to coach Appiah.
“At the end of the day he (Akwasi Appiah) has to come out with a squad for the game,” he said.
“I don’t know his plans for Mahatma (Otoo) but I am using him and currently having good value for money.”
Otoo will be realistically competing to partner captain Asamoah Gyan in Ghana’s attack against two other candidates; David Accam and Abdul Majeed Waris.
