It’s all over for Manchester United All season Manchester United’s title defence has been a sputtering, stumbling affair that never really looked like gaining any momentum. This weekend’s trip to Stamford Bridge has surely ended all of hopes of David Moyes’ side retaining their title. Samuel Eto’o’s hat-trick was the difference between the two sides as Chelsea dominated and frustrated the Red Devils. The Cameroonian striker fired the home side 2-0 up at halftime and scored his third just after the break to doom United to their 7th loss of the season. For Chelsea it was a routine win as they looked to keep up with fellow title challengers Man City and Arsenal, who both won on Saturday, for United it leaves them lying in 7th in the league, 14 points away from Arsenal at the top and 6 points away from Liverpool in 4th. United fans had better enjoy being the title of “defending champions”, if things carry on like this it might be a while before they get to use it again. Eto joins the hat-trick club This weekend Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o joined an exclusive club with only three other members. What did he have to do to enter this club? Score a Premier League hat-trick against Manchester United. Eto’o joins David Bentley, Dirk Kuyt and Romanuel Lukaku as the only players in the history of the Premier League to score three against United. Sunday was a good day for African strikers in the Premier League, of the eight goals scored six were scored by African strikers with Togolese forward Emmanuel Adebayor scoring twice, Ivorian Wilfried Bony scoring once and Eto claiming his hat-trick. 100 and counting for Mourinho This weekend’s win over Manchester United was Jose Mourinho’s 100th win in the Premier League as manager. The Portuguese manager has reached this milestone in just 142 games, the fastest it has ever been reached by a Premier League manager. Mourinho over takes Sir Alex Ferguson’s record of 162 to reach the milestone, it took Arsene Wenger 179 games and Rafa Benitez 181 games. 100 and counting for City Manchester City’s ability to score goals this season is under no doubts. Edin Dzeko’s opening goal against Cardiff this weekend was City’s 100th goal in just 34 games in all competitions this season. It’s the fastest that any side has reached the milestone, beating the previous record by 9 games. City weren’t satisfied with that though, they added three more goals through Jesus Navas, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero to end up 4-2 winners against Cardiff at the Etihad. Spurs line up 5 in a row There were a lot of raised eyebrows at the end of November when Tottenham were thrashed 6-0 away at the Etihad, little did the Spurs fans know it would set their side on a run of five away wins in a row in the league. Wins at Fulham, Sunderland, Southampton, Man United and Swansea mean it’s a run that breaks the club Premier League record for consecutive wins on the road. Emmanuel Adebayor, who was left in the cold by former Spurs’ boss Andre Villas Boas, continued his impressive run of form to score twice as Tottenham ran out 3-1 winners at the Liberty Stadium. Did Suarez dive? It seems every week we find ourselves talking about Liverpool’s Luis Suarez. If he’s not lighting up the league with another multi goal scoring display then he’s biting an opponent, or all calling an opponent something that he really, really shouldn’t. This weekend the Uruguayan found himself the subject of debate after winning a penalty against Aston Villa. This type of incident seems to be becoming more familiar in recent years. A forward will rush on to a through ball, draw the keeper out, touch it past the onrushing keeper and go down questionably easily the second they feel contact from the keeper. Even after replays opinions are divided as to if it was a dive. The game finished 2-2 after Liverpool fought back to save a point after Villa took a shock lead.
