Ahead of the summer mercato, AC Milan have been whittling down their shortlist for a new striker, and this morning, a report has emerged that the Rossoneri are ready to break their transfer record for a new star.

This season has been a preparation for change in many ways. Stefano Pioli will depart the club, and some of the veterans will end their time at the club, one of those players who will leave is Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman has still produced for Milan this season, but investment into an heir has been anticipated for some time.

However, who that would be has been in the air for most of the year, but two candidates remained clear throughout – Joshua Zirkzee and Benjamin Sesko. Bologna’s Dutchman was largely believed to be the preferred option, but with his price soaring and evaluations continuing that has now changed.

According to reports from Gazzetta dello Sport (read below), the Diavolo are working to sign Sesko from Leipzig this summer, and the club see him as the ideal player to move forward. At 20 years old, he fits the age profile that the club wants to invest in, but he provides a goalscoring trait that matches those senior to him, so Milan will look to activate his release clause of €50 million.

With the Curva Sud protesting during Sunday’s game about the club’s direction, investing in talent like Sesko will be a fantastic starting step for the summer mercato and the start of the new era.
