Manchester United Treble winner Peter Schmeichel says manager Erik ten Hag needs the full support of the global fanbase.

Schmeichel has called for unity behind the manager ahead of Saturday's trip to Fulham.

The Dane told BBC Sport: "This is the time where we stand united and we support the manager, we let him get through this period.

"We've never won the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson left. Some managers will claim they had big results, but they never developed the club or moved it forward. This is a result of that, that's what we're seeing now.

"If we love Manchester United, we have to come in behind him. Against Newcastle our own fans are singing: 'you're getting sacked in the morning'. That isn't how you support Manchester United.

"Everywhere in the world, people are talking about Manchester United not doing well. If this was another club we wouldn't get this much talk, this much airtime on the radio or space in the newspapers.

"If we can sit on top of the world in terms of narrative, it's brilliant. That's something you have to deal with. It requires enormous mental strength as a player and manager."
