The summer mercato is historically the time where football clubs spend the majority of their season’s budget. However, it is also a time for clubs to evaluate the free agent market, and AC Milan have begun to evaluate an Italian prospect.

Plans for the window have likely been in place for several months, but as news begins to filter about players not yet renewing their respective contracts, new avenues can be explored in the mercato, and Milan will be doing this in the next few months.

A prospect who they are beginning to consider is Leonardo Spinazzola, the AS Roma wing-back/winger, who might become a free agent at the end of the season, reports TMW. The 31-year-old is remaining focused on the season. However, with no contract offers on the table from Roma, he may look for new ventures in the summer.

There are three clubs interested, currently: Juventus, Barcelona and Milan, and all three believe that he still has a big role to play on the pitch, and his versatility would be a great tool for the Rossoneri to utilise.

Given he has played as a right and left-sided wingback, he offers extra reliability in defence whilst also providing senior guidance to younger talent in the positions, such as Alex Jimenez, who looks likely to make his loan spell permanent.
